to shutter or not to shutter

hey friends! here is our new build. originally i wanted stained wood looking shutters to match our door (will be a walnut stain-its not done yet) but now I'm thinking maybe it doesnt need shutters. we will have black wrought iron rails on the porch. my only thought is since the window on the far right is in a small area i couldnt put a shutter there? what do you guys think. I'm such a visual person and am having trouble picturing it.

Another NO vote for shutters and a yes vote for more substantial trim.

And consider changing the beam above the columns to white (matching the trim), and paint the downspouts to match the siding.

No shutters, but you might consider adding a band of trim around each of the windows. Only concern with that is the narrow sections around the little window... Welcome home!

My vote is NO shutters but as someone else mentioned- 1/4 trim wrapping the windows. That’s what we did and I really like the look.

I think you are right. I'll ask my siding guy amd my trim guy to see what choices we have. I'm not sure who would give the best prices/do the best job.

Also, and especially if you do wider trim, see if these are available to match the trim.

Only put shutters on a house if they are fully functional.

I think the house would be even more beautiful with shutters and thicker trim. To me, shutters are like window treatments for the outside- enhances the house to accentuate the symmetrical windows flanking the door and makes the house look more finished.

Geo, shutters on large windows such as these would look like wing flaps, and would not look like they are capable of fulfilling the original purpose of shutters.... window protection in the event of storms.

Thicker trim, though, that would work.

I was going to suggest wider window trim but then noticed that you're going to have to install porch and stair railing. So, I would get that installed and then assess.

No shutters even though I do like shutters even if they are for purely ornamental purpose. There just isn't enough wall space next to the double windows on the right side for shutters.

After the porch railing, etc., is installed, I 'think' that wider window trim will still be in order. The half moon gable end windows look out of place on this house, IMO, so I would want to get rid of them.
