GE range protection

I recently purchased a GE café range and I find that the front ledge of the range can easily scratch when cooking. Is there a possible solution to this problem such as protective guard. If one moves the pots on to the ledge
accidentally it will scratch the stainless steel.

Like the first scratch on your brand new car ... you'll get over the horror and accept that you'll get many more.

Sure, you could find things to cover it with, like those silpat baking sheets cut up in strips ... but do you want to live that way?

Soon you’ll be more concerned with the burn marks on the wall behind the range.

Why is the stove so much taller than the counters?

Really? No constructive recommendations?. “I don’t know.” Better response.

That’s a standard size for a new range which was just installed and counters were built way before this new range came in.

Don’t cook or use the kitchen if you want the kitchen to not look like you cook or use the kitchen.

Real life gives you wrinkles and gray hair. And patina on stainless surfaces.

I tend to like to take care of the things that I purchase And with there being so many things on the market I tend to research, ask and find out if there are solutions. If someone has some beneficial information that will be appreciated otherwise your comments are not needed.

Some sort of high-temperature silicone sheet would be your best bet.

    Thank you Sammy.

Hey, I mentioned the silpat baking sheets way above ... see second post!

It's smart to try to keep new things looking nice. Some people here can be unnecessarily harsh. (Cough, cough, Sophie).

The silicone pads might help, along with some nice trivets next to your stove so you can move pots off to the side rather than pull them over the front.

You might want to see if there are leveling feet on the bottom of the range so maybe the range could lowered a bit to meet your counters. Cabinets/counters are usually a standard height so it is strange be that your stove is so high.

Did you have a freestanding range before? That would explain the blank area behind your new stove. You are probably going to want to install some tile or stainless steel there to protect your wall, and for safety.

Donna thank you for your advice. I am trying to find a stainless steel backsplash for that area. Yes I had a freestanding range there previously.

Donna the leveling feet are raised very high. My husband will be Adjusting the feet and I’ll be ordering a stainless steel backsplash for that area.

You can try using a 3M vinyl to protect it. Only thing is if you get anything hot on it it will melt more than likely.

Hi Nelida, just make sure that backsplash is made by GE specifically for that range and you’ll be good to go!

I would be concerned that anything you use to cover the stainless steel could be flammable. This is a valid concern for your family’s safety. As to the comments by people who were sincerely trying to help you relax about the scratches that happen in real life, I think they were nice to you. Those of us of a certain age remember the aunt who put plastic slip covers on the French provincial furniture. The mother of one of my friends put a vinyl runner the whole length of her living room carpet....

Donna iron trivets and quilted backsplash is on order. I’ll post photos once backsplash is installed. Range has been lowered 1/2 inch to the lowest height possible.

I love the stainless steel backsplash and the green glass tile backsplash.

The quilted stainless backsplash is so pretty! Where did you order it from?

I'm so glad the leveling feet on your range could be lowered!

    Can't wait to see pictures!

What a lovely kitchen. Use and enjoy. I’m sure others will use kitchen and may not be as careful as yourself. Expect scratches on sink, microwave door if it swings into stove hood, etc. Is that picture molding underneath cabinets? And is that a TV near sink?

Gallak that picture above was a picture of the backsplash that I wanted for my kitchen. My microwave is above the range. I also like the subway tiles used in the photo. I ordered a backsplash similar to that one.

Donna the backsplash in the picture was custom-made by a metal company in Seattle Washington but I ordered a similar one from Home Depot.

Hi Nelida, my stove is Jenn Air but really old and it is slightly higher than my counters because of the height of the new porcelain floor we had installed. I really didn't like that hope when time to get new stove I don't have a problem. I really like your stove. Enjoy cooking

My range is 3/4 of an inch taller. I never thought that such small amount could make such a difference. I love my range so I will just get over it and enjoy it. It could be worse. It could look like when I purchased the property.

I just noticed the WMF pot, which was my favorite all-purpose pot because of its size, on your stovetop, Nelida. I used to have a set of it but gave it to my niece when she got her first apartment.

Yes Sammy I had to go out and purchase all new induction cookware. Although we’re getting use to cooking in an induction range we like it a lot.
