Can you take a photo further out? I agree with BeverlyFlaDeziner , if there was another option such as a low tv console that the tv sits on to the right for an example would be so much better that mounting over fireplace.

If it’s your only option to mount to the fireplace. Get an electrician and make an outlet even height with the mantle your going to install. Get a high quality extension cord of probably 5 feet and permanently run it behind your beam. I would go with grey to match the grout. I think this is best because I don’t believe Code would allow you to make an outlet on top of your mantle because it is wood but again go with an Electrican to confirm. The closer tv is to the mantle the better but a picture or Nick nack can hide the cord too.

You really need to find another place to hang the tv - get creative about how to use your space. Wires hanging down and all around are sooooooooooooooo ugly and distracting. Nothing else you do in the room is going to look good if you have wires.

Thanks for the whitewash suggestion. It looks cool in the mock you provided, but we kinda like the rock. We plan on painting the brass fireplace surround black to update it.

We do do have an attic. But again, adding electrical to the fireplace would be out of budget.

Pictures of all walls may give people ideas for a better furniture arrangement to keep tv off of fireplace. My sister's house has that same fireplace in the same location. Her backdoor is where your built-in is located and a window is located where your door is. If the rest of your room is similar to her room, your best tv location might be in the middle of

your current couch wall and the couch on the wall where you currently have the tv. The tv above the fireplace will give viewers neck issues, Our cable company will come out and add a new line to a different wall. There are some rooms that make it hard to have one focal point and this might be one of those rooms but it can still look good and be comfortable at the same time.

I'm sure there is a layout for the room that would allow you to place the TV in a better position. Post more pics of the room

Sorry for the delayed responses. My (extended) family was affected by #hurricanemichael, so it’s been a stressful week.

He are more angles of the room. We moved in several months ago, started several projects, then had a baby. So not much has happened since, including decorating.

The issue with locating the TV elsewhere is the shape of the couch. And I’m not really willing to opt for a new couch, since it‘s brand new, and we picked that one BECAUSE of our plan to mount the TV.

The layout is also complicated by the fact that there are several doors and walkways in this room. On the back left-side of the room is the hallway to the bedrooms. The door to the right of the fireplace actually leads to an addition, and at the back right-side of the room is the entryway to the dining room. So, the furniture has to be placed towards the center of the room so as not to block walkways. Also, considering the shape of the couch, I would not want to flip it to the other side of the fireplace, because that would mean we have to walk around it to get into the seating area from the dining room, if that makes sense.

I really appreciate all the great suggestions, and am willing to hear other ideas for TV placement, but I’d also like some suggestions based on my original ask, which was cable management for a mounted TV.

Are the shelves to the left of the fireplace too narrow for the tv?

Can you lose some of the shelves in the build in to the left of the fireplace? You could either put the tv on the bottom shelf or mount it?

Yes unfortunately the shelves are too narrow. They are pretty worthless, since no one buys DVDs anymore. But I can just fill them in, because the walls are painted paneling. I would have to Sheetrock the whole room.

It's going to be impossible to manage the cables, if you don't have the budget to have them put behind the walls. In the meantime, I'd paint that bookcase the same color as the walls and move the TV and console in front of it......or.....sheetrock over the bookcase and then move the TV and console in front of it...Good Luck.

That looks like a wood-burning fireplace. I’m not sure you can mount a tv above it. The heat and smoke (see how the smoke has stained your stone?) will destroy the tv.

Can you put the tv on the big, empty wall, rotate the sectional 90 degrees, and shuffle the remaining furniture?

There is not going to be a way to "manage" cables with the current situation. If you're going to hang the TV over the mantel, then you're going to need to relocate the receptacles or it's just going to look like a mess.

As for the cables they make similar color rubber hiders for that. You can hide the cord along the back corner bring across top & into tv.

If you plan on putting it higher you'll have to sit further back. Try hanging it temporary on a big board to see if you even like it that high. Try watching it a week. Would not be good to all that trouble then realize no like.

But if you do like it then can do a wood mantel router out the back of the wood to fish line through the back to other side.

Due to how dark the room is, you may want to add a mantel the same color of trim.

If you do not like height over fireplace, then a built in to left lower tv.

if don't like height of tv over fireplace, then elsewhere.

TVs almost universally list an ambient operating temperature of no higher than 40 degrees C (104 F). A good fire in the fireplace may be too hot for the TV.

Not a pro...and not sure of your dimensions. But I would place the tv on the one wall you have to the left(?) of the built ins and flip the couch. The chairs could go where the couch is now. It might be a tight fit, but that might be the only option for the moment.

No tv above the fireplace. It is almost always too high for comfortable viewing and you have to do something with the cords.

I have a tv over my firplace above a mantel. We have regular fires. 7 years, my Samsung tv is doing fine. The sofa is back further & is comfortable to watch. I would read manual. Just saying.

I have many windows and little other choice.

What works for someone else may not work for another.

Determine the Comfort height & best viewing area then come up with a plan around that.

I would remove the shelves and cover them up with a built in TV cabinet. I would not put the TV over the fireplace.
