Put a floor lamp behind the chair: it will give comfortable reading light and will get rid of ceiling gloom in that dark corner.

I was looking for a little something different than a floor lamp

I know this palette is the opposite of yours, but a few shelves with favorite books, some small literary art works, a wall sconce, or cool dropped pendant would give you a cozy reading nook.

Curtains are on order and I will be replacing the two end tables by the sofa and also getting new table lamps.

I guess I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate the sconce with some sort of shelving. I like the look of this, but with shelves instead of artwork

I have tried every configuration imaginable! The sofa is quite large and if I bring it closer then it is in the walkway, and if I place it across from the fireplace it’s just too large. The downside of moving and trying to get furniture bought for one house to work in another :(

Have you tried the armchair and ottoman in place of the desk?

If you move the white sofa to where the bombe chest currently is, does that work or is the walking area blocked?

Yes. That’s where it used to be but we are liking it by the couch, as it brings another seating option closer to the couch. Otherwise, it felt like the couch was lonely, lol.

The couch is too large to be across from the fireplace. It over dominates the space and then the rest of the room feels lost and unbalanced

I'd suggest a black metal framed ladder shelf (posted above) with either black or wooden shelf so it'd look like floating shelves. I'd also go for the style of sconce in your inspiration pic (with all the picture frames).

The chair color is too dark for the wall color. Perhaps a light- colored throw could give some contrast. A sconce in that corner could work if it is hard-wired rather than have the wiring show. A floor lamp or taller table lamp is the best way to provide good lighting for reading. I would not add wall-hung shelves there unless the chair will be pulled out into the room a bit...I don't like having shelves around my head. They encroach into my head zone.

I like the first pic Irene posted. It is not too large and dominant in the space, yet gives enough shelf space for current books and a few colorful decorative items.

Have you tried this configuration - move the couch forward, place desk behind it. Move both matching leather chairs and piece between them to each corner where couch is now. Then move the dark leather chair to the right corner where other leather chair is currently. Then you could fit the shelving unit Irene posted in the space where dark chair is now. You won't need end tables on sides of couch. Place a lamp on the desk which will be behind sofa and maybe an end table by the dark leather chair. Sconces on wall behind both light leather chairs.
Hope you can follow what I mean. Your rug is beautiful and the cow rug might look better with the leather chairs or remove all together.

I see no space for bookshelves that won’t hit your head in that corner. This is one of my favorite bookshelves for tight spaces it is called Sapien comes in two sizes and is free standing .Get nice reading lamp and stand the sapien behind the chair

You can try something like in the picture below with some nice flying shelves. Also, have you thought about changing the wall painting? It's a bit dark. Perhaps, you can add more lighting with a corner arco lamp or something like that. It's helpful.
