Agreeable Gray is very nice with Alabaster White

Thank you. We used Agreeable Gray in an upstairs bathroom, and it's much cooler than what I'm hoping to have in the first floor. We do love it there though!

My second challenge is that our cabinets are Starmark "Marshmellow" and our designer suggested the Alabaster as a complimentary trim color to avoid issues with the cabinet finish.

I'm confident that Anew Gray and Alabaster are solidly in the same color family.

Well, aren't you all color expert-y. :) They do belong to the same hue family neighborhood. Yellow.

But I don't know if the Alabaster will appear bright and crisp against Anew Gray, or if it will be dingy or muddy.

Anew has a Chroma value that's 0.32 more than Alabaster. As long as the wall color has more chroma than your white trim, the white will look fresher, cleaner, crisper in comparison.

I didn't know it was possible to follow people on Houzz. Where/how do you follow someone?

Thank you Lori! I read through more of your literature last night, and was able to see that the chroma difference was there, but since it was over the target of .20 (ish) didn't know if it would work. The Anew Gray went in yesterday and I love it in our space, so will get the Alabaster today!

It finally makes sense why I've never succeeded at finding the right paint off the tiny samples!

I greatly appreciate the wisdom that you, along with the other pros give to all of us.

my alabaster cabinets look very white ....my house is north facing and we get enough day light...I am thinking of repose gray for walls ... what you all think ? Repose or anew gray ?

Alabaster and anew are gorgeous together. Alabaster’s white will be crisper and is beatiful with anew gray better than repose gray because their chromas are greater than .20. Colors from the same hue family which in this case is yellow, need a .20 or more difference to have a cleaner white.

However, Alabaster‘s chroma is .66 and Repose Gray chroma is .59 are less than .20, when painted together something happens to the lower chroma color when there isnt a .20 difference. Yes, it will make your whites not as bright and clean, but also activate the lower chroma color which is repose gray‘s complementary color. Repose gray belongs to the yellow/orange family. What complements yellow on the circle wheel? Look at a color wheel and straight across from yellow is purple! You paint alabaster with repose gray, repose gray will look purple bluish. I have done it and I honestly dont like this combination. If you don’t want costly paint mistakes, I would follow this formula every time when painting.

If you love repose gray find another white that will give you thet .20 difference. If you have your heart set on it you can get the look .20 difference with a lot of other colors. Crushed ice, passive, stonington gray, and front porch.
