Very poor Newlyweds in a Cape Cod home trying to expand

so the outside of the home is beautiful..the lot skinny but long, the inside of the home..well let's just say it's a little tight around corners. We have a skinny living room, almost non existent kitchen, and everyone tells us that we shouldn't expand because it would make more sense to just build a brand new home..but the home has sooo much character! It's like "click, first time home out of a magazine ".
The PROBLEM:
put foundation is cinder block, not concrete, and the inspector said we need drainage tile and seems like there have been waaaayyyy too many handymen in the home..but not enough electricians..as the wiring is not only outdated, its hazardous! There are exposed wires in the laundry room, and the pipes are next to the electrical box. I think we would be awesome candidates because there are hundreds of first time home buyers, and they need to be aware of the dangers of "handyman ", also, it would be nice to have a laundry room that doesn't have extension chords and ugly storage containers especially due to the small size of our home!
