I LOVE this house and would do as little as possible. I'm drawn to purity of the era. Definitely please don't paint the brick, IMO.

Really hard to tell what you have here from the pic.....the bricks look very multi- colored in the shaded areas?...the texture appears to be rough ....the mid century vibe is generally very flat and smooth brickwork ...if the bricks appeal to you for authenticity...I might suggest going with a natural wood trims and siding in the roof peak area..this would open up a possibility of creating an entry that will break up the long flat expanse of the front facade and also cut off the street view right into the porch and courtyard (?)and front door........perhaps something like a porch with horizontal but open spaced strips like a semi solid fence. with some architectural angles and interest

Maybe not need tuch red brick, just color white or black, wood, and renew decorations...

That's AWESOME Inga! Wow. Make the garage doors a tone similar to the brick tho. No need to draw the eye to the garage. The house will look bigger...LOVE the brick!!!

Unfortunately, I think i have to paint the brick. Red brick just seems dated to me now. I've thought about whether we should do a two tone with either a board and batten Hardi product and continue that color with the trim... Either a grey or Navy could be interesting too?

Your brick is a very classic natural clay color that has been around since Colonial times in America. There is absolutely nothing dated about it, and it will never go completely out of style in the way that anything that is currently in trend will eventually. I agree that I would not touch it and that painting it would remove a lot of the warmth and character from your house. I also would not add any additional structures to your entrance. The entrance location is already very obvious and has substantial cover. Any sort of portico is just going to look tacked on and detract from the clean lines of your home.

Instead I would focus on the paint colors, the siding treatment of the gable and maybe the windows, then put most of the effort in landscaping and improving the front path. Then I think there are ways to really make the front porch inviting and redirect visitors attention toward the front door once they are up there that are simple, and not costly, such as through the use of color and the arrangement of furnishings. That's really all that the front of this house needs.

I agree painting brick never looks “updated “ it just looks unnatural..

Some bricks are ugly and need to be painted. You are very fortunate to have beautiful brick. It is not dated. I hope you don't paint it. Painted brick is also a paint to maintain. You should put the money you will save from not painting your lovely brick into landscaping. A bluestone or slate walk would look stunning. I would obscure the meter in front of your house with a plant. Slate on the gray paint area of your porch would look great too.

I would go lighter a little bit.

Do not paint the brick. If you don't like it, have it removed(I don't know why you would?)and pick out a brick to replace it that meets your visual code of "modern". In this area it is the ugliest dirtiest brown and red you can imagine. On a cloudy day it looks black. Yours is so much nicer than 'modern' in this area.

I don't like the idea of 'cutting the house in half' by highlighting the gable. yes on the bronze windows, knock out the pony walls @ the entrance & add large cedar posts, remove brick stair also, paint all of the brick, gable the same color, cover the chimney w/cedar vertical planks & extend deck the entire facade to the garage, chimney to corner, front steps also. larger light fixture, house numbers & landscaping on the walkway. wood garage doors.
