Will this couch work

Looking for a sectional to place in our living room - would this color work on our room? The living room color is BM Hale Navy.

Here is the living room.

I will be mounting a big screen in the center of the built-in.

any thoughts on the sectional and color?

It’s nice! I think it will work (don’t know about measurements but color wise). I would get a rug that ties it all together, something with some color.

I I was told by a friend to go with something that has some burnt orange color in the rug and some swivel accent chairs to pul it all together - is that a good idea?

the room is 18’Lx12’W - but it has a sliding pocket doors at the 12’ mark.

The sectional will look great with the hale navy. I would tape out the sectional on the floor before purchase as it looks large. Use blue painters tape and then post a picture here. Burnt orange is a great accent for blue. Maybe find a rug before you decide on sectional color.

Colors look great together. I think it looks like it is going to be very large in that space. Like, a room that has a sectional. And nothing else. Based on limited pics, i'd be inclined to go with an apartment sized sectional in that space. But it's really hard to tell without a floor plan, so maybe it will be fine!

    Looks good to me.

Unfortunately this may be too big for the room.

The width of the room is 145 inches - the sectional, with chaise is 104 inches. It would only leave ~40 inches of free space to walk into the room. That may be a bit tight.

From the built-in to the doorway, the length is 13’.

would I be better served to get a couch, loveseat and setup some swivel chairs opposite the loveseat?

No, a 3-seat sofa and two swivel chairs is better. No loveseat. They are usually sat in by one person unless there are lovers in the household who can't be apart.

Rina, I really like the rug you suggested. Other than gray, what other color couches would work with that rug and paint color?

Once we have those pieces, I would say we are 75% of the way there.

love this site!! So helpful and it helps me avoid returning things.

Gray is the last color I'd pick to harmonize with that rug. It's a beautiful riot of color! You could go with orange, yellow, fuschia, green, purple, teal. Purchase the rug first, bring it home, and figure out what color you'd like best. Go shopping for the sofa and bring home samples of the fabric choices. That's the best way to choose.

Diana, what color sofas, or sectional would you pick to match with that rug??

As Diana says, lots of ways to go. Here are three colour options -- if you block with your hand so you can see only one at a time you'll see that each gives a marked different effect. It's a matter of finding an effect you like:

Since the room is already navy would I not have to strike out the blue couch?

Something neutral would be a safe and smart choice.

The blue could work, although I admit it's not the easiest choice:

The colour in the rug would act in a similar way to the bright flowers in this pic to add the buzz, as it were. If you're doubtful, don't go there, though. Do what feels right for the feel you want in the room.

To be honest, I really like the burnt orange color leather couch. If I was to attempt a blue, I would have to go with a lighter shade.

The one difference I see from the latest pictures everyone is posting is, the entire room in those photos are blue. Mine is contrasted with the large, white built-in and white window trim.

Kind of something like this with the rug

Yes, that's one of the colors Rina suggested above. Here's a room w navy walls, white built-ins & trim.

A great carmel colored leather sofa would be stunning. I will grab some photos to show the look. Bbl

Depends how much use the couch is going to be getting. I think a nice rich leather would look beautiful in that room.

The leather color in those chairs is perfect with the dark blue. This is different room, but you can see the combination is nice. If you want a more modern look, select a lighter rug rather than a printed, colorful rug. You will want to make sure the arms on the sofa aren't too high for maximum comfort in the family room. High arms or straight arms like in this photo make a pretty picture, but you can't lay down and lounge on them easily. A rolled arm (not a Chesterfield) are the most comfortable. Or a lower curved arm.

Here is more traditional look with colorful rug. The rust velvet (possibly mohair) chair is the depth of color I would look for. You want to keep your tones roughly the same density. Your blue is nice and dense, so keep the leather rich and deep in tone too.

Yes, I really do like those tan/burnt orange choices with the rug and the walls, Spen. One can't be sure with colour reproduction on a screen, but the one you posted looks perhaps a bit pale.

Yes, that saddle color leather is beautiful and would work great with the rug. As far as style goes, would you consider a tufted Chesterfield sofa? It's such a classic good look.

Chesterfield's IMO are totally uncomfortable. The arms are too high for most people. The high arms mean you can't really use an end table easily. Perhaps you and your family and friends are big people, in which case that might work. For sure, sit in some and try to lay down and relax. Just my personal opinion and no offense to Diana, just know from experience with Chesterfields.

Just for giggles, with regards to the more modern rug look, what solid color rug would work with the couch colors previously recommended?

and for window treatments, Roman shades??

If the room is intended primarily as a tv room, the sectional would work even if it’s a tight fit. It fills the space and makes it cozy. If you will be using the room for conversation, games, cocktails, reading and other assorted living room activities, I’d vote for the sofa and two chairs.

I have the (Rina) recommended rug in my kitchen (under my table). The picture is a very good representation of the rug. The rug is vibrant without being overwhelming.

What is the style in the other rooms? The burnt orange/brown sofa you posted is more traditional . If you are going to contemporary style then sofa with larger seat cushions will be more suitable.

I am definitely not going the contemporary route; if anything my style would be traditional, with leaning toward transitional.

I agree with auntthelma....sectionals get a bad rap here..and you were concerned about size, but having maximum sectional and essentially creating a room within a room does work. It's almost as good as having a room full of mattresses :). I can't imagine a better place to watch a movie and eat popcorn...

Just because you don't see it in a magazine, doesn't mean that a look is bad.

If this is your only living room, you might not want that, of course. Or you might.

We have finally found a sectional and rug for this living room. This will be our primary TV room. We have another room with a large stone fireplace which serve as the room for conversation, games, etc....

We are now debating on a coffee table/ottoman, wall art and maybe another smaller couch.

    Any suggestions?
