Yes, I have a french door fridge like yours, and the door is flush when it opens. It's a Kitchenaid. I tried taking pictures for you but I don't think they would help. They don't show how the hinges work. But yes, when you open the door, the door stays in line and can be opened very wide without ever coming into contact with the cabinet.

KitchenAid puts the same kind of hinges on it's regular counter depth refrigerators as it does on it's built-in ones. It gives the door plenty of room to clear either a wall or the side panel of the cabinet for the refrigerator. I had a lengthy argument with my KD about this and he had to order new side panels for my refrigerator as he had allowed a LOT of space for the doors to open and it was unnecessary.

If that was my house, I think I'd get my carpenter friend in to shorten up the wall enough for the fridge door to clear.

Thanks for the responses. My refrigerator cubby is actually 30" deep, so I could probably get a non-counter depth model. Anglophliia, do you know if the same hinges are on KitchenAid's regular depth models? Thanks.

A lot of Whirlpool refridgerator doors are designed to need less space against the wall whe opened.
