Woodlands Tennessee Gardening plants

Need help planting black cohosh

I just bought two pots of Cimicifuga (Actaea) racemosa. The plants are small.

Should I plant them now in late October/early November or wait until spring? If I wait until spring, should I keep the pots outside or in the garage (unheated)?

Which is more important for the plants: more sun or more water? There are two places that they can be planted. One is at the edge of the woods and gets some morning sun, but won't be watered very frequently. The other is more "inside" the deciduous woods, gets a little filtered sun (under canopy) at various times during the day, but could get more water.

Zone 6b/7a (East Tennessee).

....and I think they'd do fine in either location. I have some that it natural (I didn't plant it), and it's inside my woods. The area where mine is, is towards the bottom of a hill, so probably doesn't get as dry as it would if it were higher up.

Inside the woods. And I have some that are in dry places, and some in a little moister areas, but none are in any wet areas. The is a late response, so you probably have already planted them. However, I did want to share that I have kept them in pots over the winter so that I could find a place for them. Didn't want to put them on top of a Trillium. Ha, ha!
