Strange enough I have seen one in a house about 50 years old. I am not sure what it is made of but really it has held up pretty well and never looks dirty. Depends on the minerals in your water but as long as you keep it clean should look ok

From experience of these listed, black is always tough to keep clean (sinks, counters, cars). But that base looks pretty good. Yes, to same as above, minerals might leave white residue or soap scum would show more....not sure. Any reason you don't want to do white? Then it can be scrubbed with comet, bleach, etc....

It looks good new. Not sure how I'd feel in an airbib. I'd be thinking about black mold. I think white/gray would be better. Lighter.

If I were staying at an Air BnB, I wouldn't like the idea of a black shower base because there would be no way for me to tell whether it was really clean. Maybe it's psychological but there is a reason why white (or just light colors) are used where people want to know something is hygienic.

And as others have posted, it's easier to scrub white. I had a black cast iron kitchen sink (Kohler) and as soon as water hit it, there would be spotting so never looked clean. I just gave up because I wasn't about to dry and polish my sink every time someone turned on the faucet.

@Laura Mac, I was going for a modern / industrial look and thought black would accomplish this better than white. However, as several others have pointed out, mineral content and soap scum may prove challenging. We don't see much mineral buildup and it will be cleaned after every guest so these should not be a problem. @Helen makes a good point, which I had considered but thought it might just be me ;] about being able to see it's clean... All very good points. I'll keep you posted on what we decide.

Guests like to see photos of light, bright, clean and airy places. A basement apartment has to look extra light, bright clean and airy. Black shower floors just have too much ick factor.

If you want to use black somewhere, try cabinet doors or a coffee table. As long as they gleam and shine in your professional photos and in real life, they'll read clean.

While I totally understand your attraction to black, don't use black in a rental bathroom. All white porcelain tile is vastly better. Dress it up with wallpaper and towels. CLEAN is a big factor in rentals.

Thanks everyone! I took your advise and have ordered white. Now, I'm thinking of doing the DreamLine French Linea Panel like this picture, would you do clear or frosted glass?

I would do clear - I think it's a cleaner visual and more modern.

I did use opaque glass for all the interior doors of my condo in my current remodel but my showers are all frameless clear glass.

Amanda, do you have pics of your space yet? It might help to visualize..... What color is your tile, etc?

@Laura Mac, we are literally in the framing, plumbing stage so I haven't picked tile yet. We're planning to use waterproof plank laminate flooring everywhere, but I will be using tile in the shower and a couple of other areas.
