Ceilings are interesting since subconsciously they can set the tone of a room. Unless you have a highly decorative ceiling, the ceiling is often ignored. But sometimes that is the way it should be, something that stays in the background of your mind. So try sticking with muted shades. Contrasting colors are recommended. If you are working with light blue and white, consider options in the yellow or reddish spectrum. Be wary of having it look like red white and blue though! Go to a paint store and get paint samples and hang them up. Take pictures of the space and on the computer, play with the colors to get a virtual image of how each feels and when you decide on one, have the paint store match it. Be fearless. Consider patterns, extending the wall color onto the ceiling with a big border.

I live in the UK and I love this corner bench. I have a similar corner in my kitchen but am unsure if it is big enough. Could you give me the dimensions of the unit you built or the size of the corner it occupies. You could build it if you were closer!!
