Should I have went with no coffered ceiling?

agree,,,do the entire ceiling,,,and finish it properly. Or is this the look you're after?

Do the entire thing and then think about doing something w/darker paint on the ceiling.

plain white is just, blah. it's pretty, but blah.

much better. adds depth and interest to the room

as you can see from these pictures, the ceiling looks best when the entire thing is done and bordered and finished. no?

Thanks all. I was just second guessing myself because I didn't want to bother the builder, but I will make him change it.

I'm sure you have a nice builder, but this feels like he's being lazy.

IMO a coffered ceiling in one tiny area in a home always looks silly. BTW get some proper lighting and lose all those boob lights.

Yea the boob lights definitely are going. Gonna get recessed or a low surface mount one.

Another dilemma.. If I close up the perimeters, the lighting won't be centered anymore, and the sections will be uneven. Do I have to tear the whole thing down and start over?

The center chandelier looks to be centered but do you mean the pot lights? I don't see how framing it would suddenly make them uncentered. It might highlight it but it won't create that issue. Honestly I'd rip it down and leave it as a regular ceiling.

Your builder should've known this wouldn't look write and I don't think he'll be surprised when you ask him to fix it. Good idea, but poor planning on execution on the builder's part.

I got the ceiling fixed. Thanks for everyone's input. It helped a lot.
