Stush, I think one factor never mentioned is fluffy - peaty soil when new is relatively looser, after a year or so the peat has broken down some in to more compact sponge like soil. Also Greenhouse growing is way different than the average home, all that strong growth in the high light, high humidity, high temperature with lots of fertilizer to boot, create vigorous growth that readily absorbs moisture. Forever summer in the Hothouse.

Good point to make. I have tons of compost so compost it is. So far so good but like you said, wait and see. What I like about peat is it is anti-fungal. Growing in a wet cold bog produces natural anti-fungal qualities.

Thank you Stush, for your thoughts on peaty mix. I live in Illinois where Summers are very humid, so I tend to go with a grittier mix for my sans. It's working well so far, but I'm kind of new to them. Always open to new ideas tho. As far as the S. francisii in the pic goes, I didn't buy it...it was $10.00 for that itty bitty thing. So I passed on it. :)

I live in Illinois, too. Summer for my Sans is great! What worries me is our rainy, icky colder weather, and how dang fast it can happen. One day was still a great day for them to still be outside summering, till 3 pm when fall hit. This is when I worry about humidity. Cute little francisii. Closest Ikea to me is St. Louis. Never been there. The place is just huge, driving by. My francisii really put on a growth spurt in the last few weeks. Started out in a less than 2 in cube. Absolutely requiring a 3 in pot now.
