unless you find an inexpensive one, if your planning on reselling I wouldn't go crazy to put one it. u can always suggest to the person buying the house that a wine cooler or fridge could fit in that particular spot

I think a small refrigerator would be wonderful, but not everyone drinks wine or alcohol, so perhaps one that has temp control so it could be used for water/sodas/other canned beverages as well (a dual fridge)? If a family has children, they may not want an accessible 'wine only' fridge....

We have a small undercounter beverage fridge that I really enjoy. Its really nice to tell guests to help themselves (very impressive looking too fully loaded with the interior lights on). I would not want a wine fridge in the same primo location - I’d want it in the garage or pantry.

But would you not buy a home if it didn't have one? Or would you pay more for a house that did have one? For most buyers the answer to those questions is no.

It is definitely a 'nice to have' item. You have a high end home. Everyone I know drinks wine. I would add it, but would do one that can accommodate other beverages as well as wine. We have had a Marvel for about ten years that has been problem free. My brother purchased his beverage station several years ago from Wine Enthusiast, and has been very happy with it.

I think it's a nice thing to have but not essential even in a high end home. I recently remodeled and put in a wine fridge and an undercounter fridge for beverages. By the time I'm done, we no longer drink wine and hubby went to whiskey. The kids moved out so both items are unplugged and unused. I now have to figure out where to put the multiple bottles of scotch, whiskey, bourbon etc... since we lost 60" of cabinet spaces for those items.

Sure, you now have a chance to add something a bit special which will not break the bank. I say "do it”. I have had one in the last three homes. Hey, if buyers don’t drink wine, it’s great for Diet Cokes (which is how my husband fills it). Personally, I like my wine in the freezer about 30 minutes before I pour.

I would add it and expect one in a high end home. The Sub Zero beverage center is great and accommodate wine and regular beverages. It is one of the most used appliances in my home! So useful we installed one in our beach house as well.

Yes, I guess the question is, how high end is your place? $1m or $15m? haha. Subzero would be the way to go if you can, but would it match or be higher quality than your other appliances?

Depends on how much of a wine person you want to prepare for. Someone very serious about a wine and likes a variety will want a large storage cellar at about 55-60°f and then a dual zone cooler to chill whites to proper serving temp.

Someone else is happy to store their wine at whatever temp and then stick whites in the frig to cool them to whatever temp they are when removed.

Then there are folks in the middle. We'll have a storage cellar that I hope will be about 60°f. Reds will be served right out of the cellar. Whites will go in the top of an under counter Perlick beverage cooler so they'll be about 50°f for serving. I might shove whatever cans are in the bottom to the side to stick a lighter white on the bottom to get a little cooler. Not perfect but good enough and cost effective.

I realize this thread is 5 yrs old but...We are adding one in our hot climate vacation home during our current remodel simply to keep decent wine decent and free up fridge space. We would add a wine cellar if we had space but do not. A 28 bottle under the counter built-in should be expected at the 1 million price point that is triple the median home price. If we were a 2 million home the cellar would be expected. We fully realize not everyone drinks wine, so it is 100% for us. The cooler is less than 50% of the cost of the custom cabinet we would need in that space, so for us it is a budget saver. I would not remodel JUST to add a built in unit. They can also store medication at optimal temps. We have freestanding units in our primary residence by Vinotemp that have given us 16 years trouble free use. I support wine coolers as many folks do keep at least a few bottles on hand for entertaining if they and theirs enjoy a wine loving lifestyle. If you prefer boxed wine, no judgement, it's not all poor quality, you don't need a cooler. But if it fits your home, your budget, your lifestyle go for it because they do add to a kitchens overall appeal.***one last thought...I have fould thin 7 bottle units that could be great options if a remodel only has a few inches left of space and cannot sacrifice cabinet space or for someone that rarely drinks wine.***
