We were hoping to move in the week of Nov. 26th but that won't happen. Now we're shooting for 12/7, if weather cooperates and the trades come when they are scheduled. We have lights now, not all are working yet but I can go there at night and see. Final plumbing will happen this week, I hope! I'd like to be able to use an indoor toilet, not a porta potty. :)

B Carey. Thank you! My cabinet maker did an awesome job. ❤️ I really wanted this cabinet and designed my kitchen around it. (Had to explain and show a picture to the builder and cabinet guy. Lol.) It shares a wall with the refrigerator and is 5.5x3 feet. It is 86 inches tall. The depth is due to the refrigerator as we wanted the fridge to look like a built in. I put my 2 ovens under the island and yes, they are low. My back and knees are in great shape at 56 years old so I’m not worried. Can’t wait to move in and use everything.

Ghatta-Thank You, Thank you!!! I thought it looked massive. When the Shiloh gal I was working with drew up my initial plan, she made the cabinet about 4ft wide with maybe 36 inch tall doors. I said that would seem big initially, but I want to feel like it is big still in a few years...lol. When she asked how big, I said 6 ft wide and cabinet doors as high as the cabinet in her showroom. Like you, I want it HUGE! She thought I was nutty (in her defense, I am). So I've been questioning myself on how big is too big. Yours looks perfect. Mine will either be on a freestanding wall or on a wall that can have a deeper counter. I had asked her if I should make it 2.5 feet deep for more space to work in front of appliances, etc. Are you happy with the 3ft deep counter?

B Carey, I haven‘t gotten a chance to play with it yet. The countertops go in tomorrow and I won’t get to see it with a top until Wednesday. I will take a picture for you. The size of my cabinet and the 3 ft deep top is just right. I stood in front of it today and know I will get years of enjoyment. Can’t wait to see yours!

Moving right along... not sure if we can beat our move out date of Dec.3rd, but we are trying!

Exterior doors are installed I feel so much better that I can lock it up. I got 14 interior doors delivered today the rest should come tomorrow. Kids want to sleep there one night this week, I think it will be fun. They finish roofing tomorrow and underground electric starts tomorrow.

The nook built in is done..now the carpenter just needs to finish the fireplace surround and mantle.

Thumbs up on the nook, it has a booth feel to it and I love booths. I dont know why but I like to sit and eat at a booth rather then a table. /cheers

Hits keep coming - this last one might be the backbreaker that will push the closing date. Cabinet that houses the hood liner was not the correct size - 36" ordered for a 36" range, even though we asked for a 42". So now middle cabinet and 2 side cabinets and toppers have to be reordered. ARGH! Sorry for venting :/

Im sorry Sam that must be incredibly frustrating. You want everything perfect though and corrected before you move in.

We just got our building permit! Waiting for the excavation to start after Thanksgiving but we have terrible weather with snow snow and more snow in the forecast. Hoping it will not accumulate much.

The concrete guy said he has two jobs ahead of us. My husband said its a hurry up and wait and to get used to it. I know, especially trying to build in the winter it will be tough.

Went to the house today. Was gratified to see our plumber working this morning. He was having his Thanksgiving meal in town so he didn’t have to go far when he left at noon.
We haven’t been able to get anyone to come and put a trench across our gravel driveway because of the cold and freezing soil issue. No trench, no tv as our direct tv dish will be on the other side from the house. So. Kluge time. My son and I dug a small trench in front of the stoop and the two garage doors so we could put the wire through conduit. Just through the winter. One does what one must.. We eat our Thanksgiving meal at night so was home in enough time to fix it for the 3 of us.
They put most of my countertops on Tuesday. Here is a picture of my island. And the master bath tub.

An amazing first Thanksgiving in our new home. we have a house full of family and guests. We always celebrate by birthday on Thanksgiving day too since it‘usually a day or two before Thanksgiving. The grandkids are having a ball running around the long corridors and living room. All appliances were in use and everything worked flawlessly. Everyone is going to sit down to play cards, not me, am heading off to relax and sleep since I have to work early, though I‘m working remote thiis week

Here is an update on my little 930 square foot house. some new info, 8 windows for $1200 also got a gutter quote for $863 more expanses are listed in the video. By the way this is what I do, I list the prices of the house build as I go along. Here is a pic of the kitchen layout, I render my own stuff, not pretty but it works. The goal is to get this done under 100k including land all the utilities, out the door.

Windows are partly installed and the entire framed house looks really great! My husband and I are particularly excited about how nice the glass on the back of the house and sun room looks. We haven't had a walk through yet so are very anxious to see it from the inside!

Some progress on our fireplace. Still need to seal the slate tiles, grout and do some filler on the concrete mantel to some air pockets. Only took 14 months after moving in to do this project! :)

Thanks! We are excited. In the December thread I will spam some more detailed photos. Also, I hired a guy to fly his drone once every 2 weeks on the exact same path videoing the construction process. We hope to make a time lapse video once it is complete. If it turns out, I'll post it next summer.

Love seeing everyone's pictures and progress. We went up to our place this past Friday and saw the foundation is done and roof trusses have been delivered. We put up a trail camera to take time lapse photos and we got one during the snowstorm on the 15th.

The house is still progressing. The builder told me yesterday that he has been telling the GC that he has to have the first final inspection this week. They don't inspect on Fridays so looks like its going to be Thursday. (Apparently final inspections never pass on the first go so thats why he said "first" final inspection.)

Concrete was supposed to be poured last Friday/Saturday. The forecast wasn't good Friday night into the next day but it was 55* Friday before turning later but the pour didn't happen for whatever reason. I think now they are trying to do the driveway today. I'm just pissed that they let it sit and that this wasn't done weeks ago when the weather was nice. There was no reason to have not done it then.

Counter tops are all in but the builder said the island isn't acceptable and will be redone. Rather than overhanging the edges of the cabinets a certain amount its basically flush other than on the seating side. I didn't catch that but am glad someone else is paying attention. With the counters done the plumbers were able to come back and get the sinks and toilets installed, they had previously installed the water heaters (2) and the water softener and had finished the showers and tubs. My MIL had asked for a tall toilet in her bathroom in the basement and I kept bringing it up but alas it wasn't installed. Add that to the list... Carpet was installed Friday.

We bought our fridge last week during the holiday sales and I picked it up with my dad last night to take to the house. It was such a pain to get in through the garage. The entry door is 32" so we had to take EVERYTHING off the front of the fridge to get it to fit. It was dark and there aren't any bulbs in the garage and the fixture right inside the door had been flickering but went out as well. The front door is wider but the steps haven't been poured yet so it wasn't really an option. We got it done though and its one more thing crossed off the list.

After we took the whole fridge apart then put back together and in place.

The exterior stone is like 92% done. They need to do a little at the top of the entry then finish out the inside of the portico area. There is also a custom house number plate that has the subdivision logo on it that needs to go in. Garage doors haven't been done yet but they will be white with some prairie grid glass up top. The ramp area to get to the basement apartment entry is steeper than I had hoped but still acceptable for us. We didn't stick with ADA slopes because we would have had to switchback across the whole backyard and the property line is close on that side. It doesn't look like the deck off the main floor will be in before we get the CO but we are okay with that. They'll have to brace it off for final inspection but they did that on the house across the circle because their fancy welded railings weren't ready.

The last few days I haven't done a great job taking pictures but will get some showing the carpet and fixtures all done and share them in the next day or two. It feels close and we are certainly ready.

I'm glad to see so much progress on everyone's houses. For those not so lucky in their progress, you can at least have me for company, ;-)

As November is almost over I guess I should post the photo of the last 2 pieces of roofing steel we put up on the first of the month. DH got tired, he has also been cutting the winter's firewood and the weather got cold and much too windy for lifting 20-24 foot sheets of steel into the air. Plus we are both so sick and tired of doing this roof! Not that I am looking forward to starting on it again in spring, whenever that gets here! Such is the frustrating life of 2 old people building a house single-handedly.

But hey, Thanksgiving dinner in our current house was great!

Buzz- You guys are so inspiring! I am in awe of your ability to build this house on your own. Maybe if my husband ever gets to retire I can convince him to give it a try with me!

Roof was finished and I talk about the price of material and labor. Siding on the house is also going up(I show those prices too) so its starting to look like a house now.

I know my "posts aren't typical for this site" but you can see the construction process and you can get ideas from all the pricing of materials and labor that I show, contractors almost never do that. That's the idea behind the channel to show how much things cost so you have an idea what this process looks like.

My 930square foot home is tiny compared to most homes on here, and there are some awesome builds in this thread, but wait till you see my next project it will trully be tiny!

Most of our lighting is up. But not all and they still need to correct some things. Tile still hasn't been finished completely. They didn't plumb our geo units to the water heaters, so they still need to do that. Wood floors are now being stained because he couldn't reschedule us easily, so now hoping they don't get ruined before we move in. We close on our other home Monday, and are officially homeless. We are staying with family but it's such an inconvenient mess. All our furniture is sitting in our new garage and a pod. Builder says another week but I don't believe him, lol. see are 20%over budget and 2 months behind.

Kimberly you and I May be on the same time frame for completion. We are getting final paint done, still have plumbing issues to finish, water heater needs a connection to the gas line, cook top needs to be installed and connected to gas, we have a few electrical issues to take care of, and final clean up inside and out. We chose to do a quick finish on landscaping now so we can get CO. We had it graded and threw down grass seed and hay. We will do the major landscaping and sprinkler system in late spring when zoysia sod isn’t dormant. We have been told we will have CO by 12/7. I sure hope so!

Cyndy, at this point I would love to be able to hire someone to just finish the roof and I think DH would agree (though he firmly holds the belief that the roof would not be screwed down properly by anyone but him), unfortunately the money to hire others depends on selling our current house which after 18 months on the market it's getting a little sticky.. The problems of living in a depressed market. Good thing I'm not in that much of a hurry to move and really the only pressure is what we put on ourselves.
