narrow native hedge in Los Angeles

Hello

I have a south-facing wall that I’d like to cover up, as well as create some privacy from a neighboring apartment building. I’d really like something tall and narrow, so I’ve been leaning towards planting a row of island mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus betuloides blancheae). There are so many manzanitas and ceanothus that reach that height and work in my climate, but I’m worried they’ll be too wide and take over my city-sized yard in the middle of Los Angeles.

I’m open to any suggestions as long as they’re natives. My neighbor has a toyon so I was going to skip that, and I’m planting Nevin‘s barberry on another side of the property for wildlife value, so this particular hedge just needs to be evergreen and relatively tidy.

thank you!
