You can get inspiration from any kitchen which has warm wood cabinets. Here is my wood kitchens idea book which has both newer warm wood kitchens and refreshed older kitchens.

I like suzyq's pic above with light counters and backsplash, though I've seen darker counters work too. If you do not have under cabinet lighting, consider it as it makes a big difference. I just did the area between my sink and range because I do a lot of prep there, and I love it.

I don't have a problem with the range. A slide in range is much more expensive and the high back helps keep the backsplash clean. I'd rather wipe off my range then backsplash. However, I do get the sleek look of the slide in style - but I balked at the price. As a short person, I prefer a dedicated vent rather than an over the range microwave. If you have the space for a small countertop microwave, a vent looks and works better - especially with a gas range. If it is a thought for the future, reserve enough of the new backsplash tile to fill in the space later, or take the micro down, tile behind and then put it back.

What I can see of your kitchen looks pretty nice. You really don't need to do anything. I do have a simple cream subway backsplash that I like very much and if I had your kitchen I might change that, but what you have is not bad.
