Bare wall needs help

last modified: 8 years ago

Hi,

i would love suggestion on how to style this bare wall between the two windows. Should I go for a large horizontal or vertical art work? All really big.

Or should I do something completely different like a gallery wall. i should ad that the room still needs lighting and coffee/side tables so it’s no where near finished.

cheers!

I'm depressed. Try some color in the art, whatever it is. Plan to use two thirds of the width, and I would stay away from a gallery wall, invariable not well done and a cluttered result.

Add some curtains and then work on a colorful piece of art. Etsy has lots of nice abstracts that would look nice.

Lower the TV and add drapes then figure out the size of art that will work and I agree some color.

Large original artworks are an excellent addition that gives character to any space. Good luck and enjoy decor !

Any progress? Can you show a picture of the room with the sofas moved, please?

Probably not. Because some folks insist on facing the tv. Which I am certain has not moved elsewhere.

    Hi,
Thank you for the feedback, it’s my first time using Houzz and really appreciate all the suggestions. Ok, so I’m going to post a few more photos so you can have a better look and idea of the whole room I’m working with. The room in itself is an open plan kitchen, dining and living area so we don’t have a whole lot of living room space to play with. As you can see from the photos, the tv unit can’t be centred because the wall comes out ( back of old fireplace) therefore moving the sofa to the other side isn’t possible because we would break our necks trying to watch the tv. We have played around with moving the sofa and this seems like the only way it works, i also want to segregate the room this way. As for the tv, we plan on getting a bigger one eventually so it will sit lower. The room is very white because I love natural and that modern fresh hamptons look, but unfortunately it does look depressing and cold and I can’t seem to style it right. I enjoy yellows and greens and blues and like my art somewhat eclectic and vintage but don’t know how to mix the styles together. I’m really bad at it.

Nice selections. Are both sofas the same size? When up on legs, I prefer seating to be entirely on the rug for a more grounded effect. Can you try that rug under the dining table? Should 36-42" larger than the table top all around. I think you should lower the TV, get a lucite coffee table and put it on a focal point rug (one that basically makes the coffee table the star.) I think I prefer the sofa on that wall and no drapes but more interesting shades/blinds with texture.

    too bad.

If you are intent on leaving the sofa facing a blank wall then you might as well move the tv to the big empty wall.

do something like this and move the tv to that wall.

those white mini blinds are sad. so sad. nothing Hamptons about those. you need some texture, some color , something. woven woods, mini blinds, would be better

in the nook space where the tv currently is, do some built in's and back paint them with some sort of color. any color.

if you won't move anything, then try a nice art piece on that huge wall, with a bench, or a console table, or a couple of ottomans underneath it

or, you could also do something like this between those two windows

What about a large Wall mural? Go with bold color photography, modern art or black and white images!

It seems like you need to add some more color to your living room, it looks kind of plain. Take advantage of that wall and hang a colorful painting there, it’ll bring life to the room.

I think the very talented Celerygirl has the size you need for the art -- whether it's three works or just one -- spot on. Also the feel of the art is perfect. The whole room is gorgeous as she has it -- and notice that there is colour there, in the blue-grey in the art and the vibrant green of the plant. So measure out the equivalent space on your wall and go looking for that. And the curtains are just wonderful.

I certainly don't dislike the idea of brighter colours in the art, I just think that this subtle approach is so much more calming and elegant.

For the wall art check Etsy or IKEA. For the coffee table I like idea of four tufted ottomans or two tufted benches. You can use them as coffee table and extra seats.

We think the fact you moved the sofa is fantastic. Now it looks like you need a great coffee table/ottoman, along with some stunning artwork to put behind that sofa. Here are a lot of interesting ideas from some designs we have done for clients. Perhaps it will help to look at them?
