The problem with those is that there is too much opportunity for smoke and grease to spread around your kitchen before they can reach an exhaust mounted at 8' or higher. In addition, every exhaust in the universe needs to be cleaned, but a ceiling exhaust will require you to climb a ladder, take down the greasy filters, clean them, and climb back up to re-install them. Do you want to do that? And how often? If you don't clean them, you run the risk of accumulated grease in the filters dripping onto your head.

Did you install this hood? I am thinking of doing the same and would like feedback.

Looking to get feedback on this hood - Faber Stratus Isola - 48" model over a 36" range, for 9' ceiling. Anyone use that? I am thinking of going with 1200 CFM for max power when needed.
