one towel ring looks nice. unless your doing a towel bar- then you hang 2 towels.

For your guest bath I would do one towel ring. Then, for bath towels (if this is a full size guest bath?) how about considering robe/towel hooks in place a towel bar. In our guest bath which is used by over night guests, they have two towels hanging and ready to go. They look good on the hooks too, a little updated looking than a traditional towel bar. For non overnight guests that are simply using that same bathroom I have paper towelettes I put out. Love your space :)

Helen, you are 100% correct on the not wanting to use a hand towel in a guest bathroom; but would you still hang a towel ring and towel, but leave the disposabl towels off to the side?

One towel ring. If towels are white it's easy enough to see if they are clean. Guest linens are rarely used and usually freshly laundered. And I'm guessing that the people sharing your guest bedroom are reasonably close, a couple or family members.

An exception might be a house with a "bunk room", several bunk beds for possibly unrelated guests. In that case maybe double sinks and several hand towels would be better, as the guests may be people who don't know each other.

( But maybe include another option for germphobic or sick guests like a basket of several rolled hand towels and a little hamper in a corner for them to put the used ones.)

I'm finishing up my remodel and putting one towel ring in the guest bathroom just for appearance sake with some kind of fancy towel :--).

I am not particularly germophobic but I wouldn't want to wipe my hands on towels that I don't know who used before or for what. And just because something doesn't look dirty doesn't mean that it doesn't have viruses, funguses or bacteria. Most pathogens are invisible to the naked eye and it's not visible dirt that causes illness for the most part.

ETA - If I had a guest who was actually staying overnight and needing linens, I would supply him or her with a nice supply rather than have them rely on what was hanging around in the guest bath.

I think the towel ring question depends on the sleeping situation in the guest bedroom.
If there's a queen bed and couples share the room then a couple probably won't be perturbed by sharing a hand towel. If the guest bedroom has two twin beds and the room is mostly used for visiting children well then it's usually lucky if kids remember to wash their hands at all. And my brother's kids share play doh which has to be grosser than sharing a hand towel. The horse is already out of the barn as far as kids and germs are concerned.
But if the room has two full beds and is often used for unrelated adults then the comfort level has to be different. Then provide two hand towel rings if only so the guests don't feel uncomfortable, even if there are additional linens in a basket or stacked on the bed.

So I bought the disposaable linen towels and towel holder. I now need to put them somewhere, since I only have a pedestal sink.

What size storage shelf would be best in this space? Something the same height as the sink, or slightly taller than the sink?

When I was considering options, I saw they have some wall mounted holders.

You can also construct a shelf of some kind. I am having my GC use some leftover tiles to make a box for my wipes for the guest bath.

You might want to add a robe hook, too. I have added them to every bathroom so that anyone has a place to hang a robe, nightgown, Jammie's, etc. I always dislike when hotel bathrooms have no place to hang such things. I have seen people place their Jammie's, etc. on the closed toilet seat. I gag even when I type that. :)

Old posting, but came across it and love the idea of having a basket on the counter with rolled up cloths so that each guest can have a fresh one!
