Shopping advise needed: Holy Mouse vs Desert Mouse

Soooo, my sister and I have a rule. I don't buy hosta that she has and visa versa. The reasoning is that if the plant grows well we can share a division. If the plant does not grow well, well who wants another one of those? So she has Pure Heart and I want an opposite of my Frosted Mouse Ears so to skirt this "rule" I thought I might order either Holy Mouse or Desert Mouse.

I’ve had Holy Mouse Ears for three seasons, it’s growing in a pot, no reversion so far. It has doubled in size the past two seasons. The only mini I’ve had revert was Miniskirt. Here is mine early this past June.

I really like my HME! Since the folks at Naylor think DM might be the same as Pure Heart I would tend to go with HME. Plus you might get a more mature plant because it has been around for a while.

I can't help you as I don't have either one. But I will say that I have heard a lot of good things about Holy Mouse Ears. I love the arrangement with your sister! Wish my sister was into gardening!

No advice to offer but that Desert Mouse is positively adorable. I'm a sucker for a mini! I have BME, Church Mouse, and Mighty Mouse. I also have a weird reversion of BME or vice versa. These came together in one pot, purchased in 2017. Excuse the fried edges. I think it was in the greenhouse where I bought it for quite some time. I divided the all-blue and bi-colored portions and they looked much better this year.

4 years and one eye, hmm, thats slower than Frosted Mouse Ears. Thats good information. Has anyone had Holy Mouse Ears Revert?

Some people will be able to grow Holy Mouse Ears and others will have trouble. Growing in a pot might be easier as the pH and moisture levels tend to be better and you can feed it as needed. I've had a bunch of Holy Mouse Ears that I purchased shortly after they were released in tissue culture years ago and I've never put them in our catalog because they were never a strong grower for me. Several eyes have reverted back to BME so I remove those as I see them. I can't really recommend it for everyone but it can be pretty and is worth a try so long as you don't have the greatest expectations.
