I wrap pretty much every tree through its first winter, and sometimes its second depending on the tree and location, so if it were mine I would be wrapping it.

I'm also susceptible to NE winds just due to the layout of my property.

Of course brothergarm, that makes perfect sense. At least for this particular specimen it is easy to protect but for two others I planted much earlier in the season it is much more problematic. And so I might just leave those two to fend for themselves :(.
