WHY?! Cloudy glassware

I use a rinse aid in the dishwasher but it still leaves these glasses looking cloudy. Any ideas how to fix this?

    Hard water.

Are they etched, or can you wipe that cloudiness away? Sometimes using a hotter water setting (like a Sanicycle) in the machine can help (if they aren't already etched).

Olyuchick -- They don't feel etched, but I also can't seem to wipe the cloudiness away. The glasses were washed in the hot setting in the dishwasher.

Sushi -- Yes, hard water. Is there any way to fix them?

Try wiping them with white vinegar. If they aren't etched (and you can't tell that easily), you should be able to wipe away the calcium carbonate. If you can't, then they are etched.

PS: Is a whole house water softener and option for you? Imagine what your pipes look like. Or a new dishwasher, a Miele with built-in water softener. New glasses may be cheaper, tho.

I switched to Cascade 12x power pods and couldn't believe the difference in my glasses. Worth a try.

My every day glass wine glasses used to do that, I would wash them by hand with straight white vinegar once in a while. I have hard water, it did the trick.

I bought a new dishwasher thinking it was the problem. When the new dishwasher did the same I thought I had just wasted a lot of money. So I started to find out what the problem was with Internet searches. The PROBLEM is that phosphates were removed from dishwasher detergents. That is not a problem unless you have hard water. My city had very hard water. You can get a water softener or by an amazing product "Lemi Shine" to add to your dishwasher. It really does work, all natural. I get it at Target and really recommend it to everyone. You really have to look for it since they don't give it much space.

We have hard water and I have to admit I gave up trying to find a solution and bought cheap glasses from IKEA that I wash by hand. I'll try some of the suggestions here. My more expensive whisky glasses will continue to be handwashed.

Add water softener to the DW or buy a whole house softener.
