Bathroom location

We are renovating our first floor full gut. We are trying to have an open flow between kitchen breakfast nook and the living/sitting room. We have a split level so we are trying to fit all this in the upper level in the back of the house. Our architect shows the 1st floor bathroom in the back of the house. If we move this to the front of the house, it would make more space so the kitchen and other rooms are not so cramped.(note we want the rooms in the back to be flexible/interchangable, so the breakfast nook could be used as dinning room or living room) and i would be able to add a walk in pantry easier. But moving the bathroom to the front of the house means we would loose the storage (bikes, tools etc)to compensate for the space lost. And it seems we would loose the potential to use the family room as a guest room or office because if the door is closed it would block access to the bathroom. Unless we made to seperate doors off of the foyer. Also would it be to out of the way frim the dinning room to walk down the 3 steps to the front of the house, walk in the living room then into the bathroom. Some people say its better to have bathroom far from main public room, and i have seen many houses with bathrooms by the front door. Let me know your opinions please.
