Ground over suggestions?

I finally replanted the 10'x10' planter area next to my driveway. Since it's a little close to the corner of the garage, I planted a Dynamite crape myrtle, but I need something a little more exciting to cover the dirt than shredded bark.


This was the planting job:



In case it's not clear what that is, it's a rootball buried under 6" of soil. I hit the roof, but we got it straightened out.
