Go out and shake or knock as much of the snow off as you can before it gets cold tonight and freezes.

We almost always have heavy, wet snow here.....when it does snow.......and going out before it gets fully dark and shaking it off delicate plants is a winter rite of passage :-))

I live 1/2 mile off the water. It's always wet...... Give me 20 inches of dry powdery stuff anyday. Eh, hopefully at least this speeds up the dormancy so I can get my winter protect mulch on and cross one off the honey-to-do-list.

Re: the shake. The snowfall type is the type that even the backpack blower won't make a dent in moving. It def. needs manual agitation...

Same issue at my location. The leaves just fell off this past Sunday night. Didn't have time to winter protect during the week. Wednesday night wen down to 23 in my location. Fingers crossed it didn't damage the buds. Been removing snow from the shrubs today. Hopefully by tomorrow afternoon most of the snow will be melted so I can put up some protection.

Eh. Some remain a bit more - splayed. Eh, we'll see if it fixes itself out.

All those leaves became nice little pockets/container for all that snow.

It's okay when it's barren....as it's sorta like mulch.

Heh. I’ve winter protected too early in the past at times. Now I wait till leaves are off and they are deep sleeping .

When I did it too early , buds remained -green- all winter .

I don’t mind winter . At least for the 1st couple of snowfalls. It’s a guy thing . I get to get the snowblower out and bloooooow some snow . Then it gets real tired real fast and I yearn for the dog days of summer

I would recommend preping early in mid to late Summer by putting the stakes and or the stakes & chicken wire only. Then do the rest once the long term Weather Forecast says it will be going below 30F-ish (I wait until they say 25F or less here though). I check online for those forecasts.
