fading and striations across wood veneer table top

We have a fairly cheap dining table that has rubberwood veneer on the top. Unfortunately we kept our placemats on the table all the time this past year, and when I lifted one up to clean, I noticed these striations across the grain, and some fading.

I’ve tried wiping the surface but it looks permanent. Is this what’s called “blushing”? Or white spots? I’m having trouble diagnosing it so that I can fix it properly. Hoping someone out there can advise.

Again, bear in mind that this wood top is said to be a veneer, NOT solid wood (so refinishing it with sanding is not an option). There’s manufactured wood underneath the veneer.

Thanks in advance!
