Lighting Design Dilemma Basements

Can Light Placement/Grouping?

I'm having a walk-out basement remodeled as an office/media room. My contractor suggested some generic can light placement. Is there a better way to arrange the lights? How should I divide them up into 2-4 zones? Thanks for any help you're able to give!

I'm no lighting expert but I think two in the stairwell with the third one at the bottom landing spot. Three in the sitting/TV area and three at the desk/video game area (the 3rd one in the bath.) With measurements someone probably calculate the amount of lumens needed. LED's on dimmers would be my preference throughout, so you can dim all of them for watching TV. Maybe put the desk ones on a separate dimmer in case someone is working while others are watching TV.
