Enjoy Dave, you can expand in persimmon just like anything else, including citrus and more. I can tell you stories about them from years gone bye to last week and in the next weeks.

Bob, yes, I could grow more persimmon types, but then I'd have less room for my holly varieties. LOL! I am growing over 30 varieties of holly. I really value the evergreen foliage and red berries, especially in winter.

Hi everyone! I already have a small saijo that I overwinter in my basement. I bought it last year so it’s still a baby. I guess that I will have to wait a couple of years before I could get some fruits. It starts to leaf out so I am very excited and will like to add another variety. Can you help me to choose a good variety that is early enough for Canada?

Here is what I can get:

- early fuyu

-early jiro

- sweet fuyu.

It’s just a matter of preference, do you like non astringent ones better? I personally don’t, why? ,because they just taste too mild. Now if you leave them on the tree longer, they will get softer and better tasting.

The only astringent that I can get here is Saijo which I already have and I want to choose another variety. I don’t mind the non astringent because my kids like them (they call them orange apple loll).

I am thinking to get a fuyu but do you think that it will do well in container here? Will it have time to ripen knowing that they can stay outdoor from May till october?

It all depends on the size container, I suggest a min. 15 gl container squat. Persimmon have taproots, don t need it for container culture. Non astringent ones can be eating a lot sooner.

Amy, still got the Amy tree, will not get any mandarins this years, they produce every other year. You must be doing good, because the tree is doing good!
