If you are in a major metro area, it may be worth your while to look at CL. It's a pain sorting out the regular kitchen appliance sources who advertise there, but sometimes you can find great deals from people remodeling practically brand new kitchens.

I found the GE one you don't like for $1500 on the SF CL (new). That seems like a good deal, but you don't like that appliance. Good luck on your hunt.

Just wondering, if you are limited on what you can afford for the 36" gas rangetop, what are you doing about a hood? They can be very expensive too.

Have you considered induction? You would have to go up a little on the 2k for a Bosch 36" cooktop, but you would have a little less required for venting.

Ventahood or Faber for the hood. The MUA needed will vary due to climate. You need to talk to your HVAC professional about that. It could be 2K. It could be 12K.

Vicky, be sure you are looking at induction, which works by magnetism, and not radiant heat/smooth top electric. The control on induction is a fine and responsive as with gas- possibly finer. There is no clean up- nothing bakes on to the surface because the surface itself never heats up- only the cooking vessel. The only extra factor to consider is whether or not your current cookware is magnetic- test with a magnet. You can get good sets of induction compatible cookware for sub $300 on Amazon- maybe even closer to $200. Cast iron works fine. I have both gas and induction- I much prefer induction because I like not having to clean up any messes and I love the responsiveness and how low and gentle the heat goes for sauces and melting chocolate. Lots of induction threads here you can look up.

PS You need less ventilation because you don't have the gas exhaust- which includes pollutants in the air.
