Need Help In Dining Room

We recently moved and need help! I have never decorated a home and do not know where to begin! I am more traditional but love the Shabby Chic look. I have 1 year old twins, a 10 Year Old, A Husband, A Dog and very busy life. I want a home that looks comfortable and inviting, but stylish. Thinking Pottery Barn or Ethan Allen, but plan to purchase items from more eccletic local shops. Thank you

jss, you have posted twice. It will just muddy the waters. Incorporate into one post as the living room and dining room are integral parts of your first floor decor.

Should I put all my "dilemmas" on the main floor in one post? And do the upstairs seperate?

First off, where did you get that amazing mirror?!! I LOVE it!
I definitely think getting new lighting fixtures and perhaps adding window treatments will do a lot for the room. Are you up for painting at all?

Yes, at least put the living, dining room and hall on one post. The picture of your hall post shows those three rooms abutting. You will only receive conflicting advice.

i actually really like the roome... can the mirror hang a little higher, more centered on the wall? draw some attention to the stuff you have displayed on your sideboard. Also, add more splashes of color either there or with artwork to echo the runner. An area rug might also help, although personally, i'm not a fan of area rugs in eating areas...
