Location was provided and an appropriate reference for that area was then supplied :-) And these berries should be widely available from just about any of your usual fruit suppliers - Stark Brothers, Dave Wilson, Raintree Nursery, etc.

There was a major merger between the two forum platforms (Houzz and GardenWeb) earlier in the summer that did create all manner of reading and posting errors depending on how you entered or were signed onto the website and what device and browser you are using. That may have affected what you see now :-))

Thomas mentions a "new bed". For long-term red raspberry success in wet climates, the bed must be raised or the soil must be extremely well draining. The raspberries can also be planted in a raised row, or trenched on each side of the row. Experimental fields here use about 6 to 8 inches of hilling.

so the new bed is a raised bed. Are those heritage berries really only 2' in height? If so I'm thinking maybe a row of those in front followed by a row of taller red raspberries in the back. Might be a moot point since I can't find a single supplier that has the heritage in stock!

Mature Heritage berries will be 4-5' tall and with a spread of 3-4'. If you want a shorter, more compact variety, look for Raspberry Shortcake. And this is the wrong time of year to be looking for them.....try again in March.

This is by far the most active and knowledgeable collection of online gardening forums :-) Yes, there can be some posting issues.....I find using phones to be the least reliable method with an actual computer/laptop (not a tablet) being the most reliable and easiest to access all the features.

FWIW, I only enter the site through GardenWeb and stay signed on all the time and encounter virtually NO issues. IME, the least interaction with Houzz, the fewer problems one encounters.

The pictures show people breaking their backs LOL picking the berries. Doesn't matter to me either way. I just like the everbearing feature. Maybe still plant two varieties. One regular that matures in early summer, so that I have a double crop each year!

Not sure what you are reading but my experience and every source I encounter states a 5' height.....which is pretty typical for most raspberries.

You do not need to order them this far in advance :-) Just a couple of weeks is fine. Nourse Farms currently has them in stock but will not ship of course until spring (or later). And I would not discount finding them locally as well. 'Heritage' is a very popular variety and it wouldn't surprise me to find your better local independent nursery or garden center selling them bare root late in late winter/early spring.

Yep I agree 5' is typical height. This url says 24". Also been reading that Heritage first produces on the canes in the fall then in the spring on the same canes but lower on the cane. Maybe the pictures I saw had the canes pruned for the second year? Don't know.

Not sure about our local garden center carrying them, at least bare root. Most of the berries I've seen there have always been in like gallon pots which sell for $$ compared to $. for bare root.

melikee, thanks! I took a look. looks like mostly fruit topics. I used to belong to CompuServe and they had an awesome Gardening Forum and a great group of people. I liked Houzz, maybe it was gardenweb?, with the different forums which helped with organization of topics, but seriously... all the issues with the software. I seldom pull out a laptop at home anymore. :(
