Laundry room countertop help

I have a small mud/laundry room when entering the house through the garage.

We're planning a DIY update. We're looking to add a countertop and upper cabinets to the laundry room, inspired somewhat by this idea:

We're not really sure how to size the countertop. Here are pictures of the current room from a couple of angles:

The wall on the left with the water hookups extends 24.5" while the wall on the right extends 21.5"

The appliances extend out 9.5" from the wall on the right...

My thought is to have the counter a depth of 21.5" that goes to the turn of the wall on the right. My wife does not like this idea as it leaves 9.5" of the appliances exposed.

She likes the idea of having a 24.5" deep counter that wraps around the wall on the right OR an even deeper counter that wraps around the wall on the right all the way to the door trim.

Looking for some insight and advice...

Thank you!
