guest bedroom makeover ... help with the details

I have a very low budget to redo a guest bedroom in my house. It had lots of yellow and florals with old black painted beds. Three walls are now painted Benjamin Moore "Shoreline" and the beds have been painted in BM "Silver Chain." The fourth wall is covered in a large-scale dandelion print in silver and off white. I would like your advice on what to do about the nightstand. I was thinking of painting the front drawer and doors in white and leaving the rest in the wood tone. The drawer pulls are crystal. Also would like advice about a lamp and pillows. A picture of my new chandelier/fan is also included. Eventually, I will replace the blinds with curtains (grey velvet?) and add a comfy chair.
Note: The small chair shown with the chandelier is no longer in that room. I would welcome your input!

How about one of these. I would just do one lumbar on each bed same size.

Yes, I especially like the top one. I'll check them out in the morning. Where did you find them?

Jean- I'm guessing you have a budget in mind for the pillows so probably would be helpful to know so that we don't get you excited about a pillow that isn't budget friendly. I'm not feeling the West Elm ones.

I did this real quick without spending time shopping as I'm heading to bed and will be gone all day tomorrow. But what about going to a soft pink pillow? Probably needs to be a softer pink (blush?) than this (unless I'm getting monitor color distortion) but at least it will give you a visual. And then we could find a combo pink/blue pillow for the chair.

I think the blush is prett in the room. World Market has some velvet ones in a similar color.

Ha-ha.. I had done a sketch with that buffalo check in your room but just removed it as I liked it on the chair but not on the beds. I don't think the pink would be any more of a focal point than other pillows we've been looking at. If we find one that is more blush it will be soft enough that it won't be such a focal point. I think it would be worth trying. Not liking that Christmas tree print for your room. But great for a cabin-lol...

Ok. I liked the rosettes a lot. But the ones I saw on line this morning were too small. I'm going out this morning and will be near TJ Maxx and HomeGoods. I'll stop there. Thank you for sticking with me everyone.

I think trying some blush pink will be gorgeous! Good luck at TJMaxx !

I really like the one with yellow and grey you found two days ago, Jean. Soft colours with a subtle pattern in tune with your pretty wallpaper and the easy lumbar shape. Do you find it too "feminine" or traditional?

When I'm looking for affordable pillows (which is always), I head to HomeSense (HomeGoods and T.J. Maxx in the States). Is there one in your area? Might be worth a visit. Last summer, I found inexpensive pillows for our family room at Walmart. Online, there's also Target, Pier1 and World Market as Molly mentioned.

I like the idea of pillows with muted colours with some texture or subtle pattern or decorative accent for your room.

This one is at Walmart. They call it turquoise but it looks like a greyed-blue on my screen. The decorative buttons might be a touch big. One of those things you'd have to try and see in situ.

    Walmart - Mainstays Coconut buttons

I like the texture in this one a lot - has the Scandi vibe to me:

    Pier1 - Bauble indigo lumbar

They have it with a lighter blue as well which might suit even better. Less expensive too!

    Pier1 - Bauble maui lumbar

Not sure about the size of this one at Target - seems too small. The velvet is not showing up on my screen and it looks a bit meh but....the colour and pattern seem on point. It might look better in person.

    Target - printed velvet

    More from Target:

    My least favourite:

    And World Market:

(I really like this one but not sure of the colour - I prefer the blue of the pillows you found - the ones on the beds two days with the easel.)

ETA: Just saw your post about stopping by HomeGoods today. Yay! I'm sure you'll find something. Happy hunting! :)

Just returned from TJ Maxx and Homegoods. Found some UGG pillows I liked but were $79 each. These are NOT them. Here are some similar that I found on Houzz. Feedback?

I like! Pretty texture. I prefer the first to the second.

($79 each?!? Yikes. Don't recall ever seeing pillows that expensive at our HomeSense.)

I like the texture but I am not sure of the color given the chair and art? I think I prefer the bird ones.

Not feeling the texture of these pillows for your room. Maybe a velvet or silk in blush would be better. I'm going to look for a blue/pink pillow and see if that leads to anything interesting.

I think the pink rosette pillows are beautiful and are very reasonably priced, but for sure they are pink, not blush. Looking forward to seeing more. By the way, my master bath is grey and white with blush accents, so that combo is well within my comfort zone. I redid that last summer.

    What is your budget?

No more than $80 total for pillows.

I'm so excited about this one. It just works with everything. And the gold sequins even work with the tan carpeting. I hope Jean likes this one.

Flo, what size do you think? Since it comes in different sizes would you do both in the same size or go with a different size on each bed?

Oh, that's beautiful, Ted! It's a pillow cover though, not a pillow. Do you have inserts, Jean?

I think i would do same size to kind of trick the eye on bed size differences. Around 12x18. I will look at size options. Bbl

Ok. They only offer square shape. Either 14x14 or 16x16”.

Here is a picture of a 16 x 16 inch pillow on the bed, just for purpose of seeing the size. My new gauzy curtains went up this morning. Love them!

Curtains look pretty. I think to get the full effect of the bird you need 16” sq. But if you want more of an accent look go with 14” sq. Very cute and in the budget!

I agree. I think the 14" square might look skimpy, so I'll go with the 16" square. It definitely will be beautiful...and work well with everything else that is going on in the room. I just sent you a separate email re Houzz Trade Program discount. Many thanks.

Oh be still my heart. I'm so excited about those pillows and I can't wait to see them in your room. And I love the curtains, too. Great find on those Jean. I think this may become your she "room" rather than a guestroom-lol.. Yes, 16 x 16 .

After you get the pillows, couple of things that you may want to explore for possible purchase down the road is bed skirts for the beds and a side table for the chair. And with the bling on the pillows, I'm thinking your current lamp isn't too bad.

I think they are shipped from India. I just found them now on Amazon and the reviews are mixed regarding the color ( some say exactly as shown and others are saying not so) but we'll keep our fingers crossed and think positive thoughts.

A bit disappointing. I like how they work with the wallpaper but very cold feeling in addition to touch. Boohoo! Keep looking. Need more warm coloring and softer texture I believe.

Pretty pillows but if you don't like them in the room, next! Is a Scandi vibe still your aim? Btw, I'm not a pro but have you thought of putting two white pillows on the single bed?

    Jean thanked tartanmeup

What do you mean "feel?' The way they feel in the hand or the "feel" in the room? If it is the latter, I'm thinking because they are a bit darker than anything else in the room that they feel a bit out of place? Do you have anything that could be a bit darker in place of the flowers on the night stand?

    Jean thanked tedbixby1981

The issue with the pillows are that they are uncomfortable to the touch. Their function as pillows fail. I continue to be drawn toward a velvet or sheepskin pillow.

Ok. I'm sorry as I thought you wanted decorative not functional as there would be now way these would be functional with the beading on them and if I had understood that, I wouldn't have suggested them. So I'm sorry that you have to go through the hassle of dealing with them now.

The lamp shade is the wrong color and the clear glass vase disappears, so that lamp should go elsewhere, to be replaced by a new lamp with a white shade...base in silver color or in an accent color you may want to add for contrast. I always like an aqua with silver or gray, but whatever lamp you find may assign the accent color. I never object to a wood piece in a theme-color room.... to go totally in “theme” can seem contrived.
Some people like the night stand almost touching the bed, but with a shared nightstand, space is acceptable.

Once you have an accent color, bring in some art for the walls, especially over the beds. I always appreciate a comfortable upholstered chair in a guest room, maybe even two if you expect two guests.

love your chair and your wallpaper but if you are going modern I wonder if the room would look better without the bed frames, they read childhood early American to me. Curtains also don't read modern to me. Frameless Beds with more luxurious bedding would be my vote with some accent pieces/pillows, prints for a pop that sets off your chair and wallpaper

They’re pretty, but they don’t do what you have said you wanted in this room.
A punch of color would be better. And most any color, in velvet, shouldn’t be too hard to find. You certainly don’t want uncomfortable pillows in your guest room.

Flo, I really like the last pillow from ZGallerie. On that site it is $89.95. I found a similar one for $38 on another site: Orchard Mile. The blue is temporarily out of stock. I think the fabric is very close if not the same as the one you suggest. The measurements are 12 x 20. Yes?
