Slippery Hardwood Floor

At the end of September we had a section of our kitchen flooring replaced with new hardwoods and refinished the existing hardwoods on the rest of that level of the house to match. From the very beginning after this was done there has always been a single super slippery spot measuring about 4ft x 2.5ft right in front of the backdoor entryway. We didn't immediately try to do anything about this as we figured it was just dust or residue and would eventually go away after we cleaned the floors.

We have damp mopped the area several times with no change. Today I use a solution of vinegar and water to mop the area three times with no change. We do usually have a heavy duty area rug in the area, but it slides around horribly and it still doesn't completely cover it.

Al of the family members including our dog have wiped out multiple times in this area, so we would really love some suggestions on other options to solve this problem. Thanks!

If you choose to put another rug there with an anti slip pad, make sure the pad states it is for wood floors and breathable. A lot of the anti slip rugs in the link above will adhere to your wood floor over the years. I would never trust a product that comes with tape as it too can adhere to your wood floor and become impossible to remove unless you sand and refinish. Really read into the descriptions and if available find the manufacturers website and read what their description says. A few of the products in the link above have photos from the manufacturers website that says "keep your rugs in place on carpeted floors" and the description by the seller states wood floors... red flag for me. Check the manufacturers website.

The product we sell has a horse hair side and a rubber side and it is specifically made for area rugs on wood floors. It is breathable and will not adhere to a wood floor years down the road.

Is there a gloss difference? Would you be willing to have someone come in and "rough" the area up with a sander? What's the gloss level of your flooring?

What product did you use to finish the floors? Is it the same section that was replaced/repaired?

I dont know what they are called, it's a grip mat you can put under the rug to stop it from slipping, they also come in strips, here you go found them for you

Thanks for the suggestions! It was definitely not a slope/pitch issue and I couldn't tell any difference in the gloss either. Since it's been a while since I posted this so I just wanted to check back in with you to let you know what worked for us incase anyone else ever needs ideas for this type of problem. I applied a vinegar and water solution to the floor and left it on that spot and it did help to reduce slipperiness. The first time I did it I wiped it up with plain water after letting it sit for a bit and there was no difference. When I didn’t wipe it up, it left a slight enough residue to help. Also, since ours it right in front of our back door I bought a “Gorilla Grip” brand non slip pad for underneath the entryway rug and it stopped it from moving around. I had been using a similar, but cheaper pad from target and that one didn’t work as well.
