Need some color!

Last year I had plans to paint my bedroom gray but it doesn't look like that is going to happen in the near future. So....in the mean time I need to liven this room up. It just feels so blah. I'd love ideas for pillows, accent colors, etc. Thanks!

The rug was for the bathroom. The rug I have in there is going to have to stay. I don't have the budget for a new one. I'll take a look at the photos. On second thought I don't think my husband would like the fuchsia :) Maybe yellow...

We do need a throw or something for function. We have 3 dogs that sleep with us every night and I need to lay something over the white quilt. We also need it for additional warmth in the winter.

Perhaps you can store your throw in the chest during the daytime? (If it doesn't "go" with your decor.) I tuck my throw in my nightstand when I make my bed for the day. You could get inexpensive matching lamps for the bedside tables and spray paint them your accent colour. Perhaps a colour from your art?

Here's a yellow throw for inspo. It comes in lilac, coral, platinum....a slew of colours!

I think I like the more muted one with the gray throw? would I get just one?

Just one? Won't it be lonely? Sorry, I'm a fan of pillows. :) I'd probably get three square ones or one long rectangular one. It can be fun to mix and match. Do you have a HomeGoods nearby? Plenty of inexpensive pillows there and you can return them without a hassle if they don't work in your space.

That’s what I was thinking. Yes, I pass by home goods almost everyday (and go in almost everyday) mixing and matching is tough for me though. Are you thinking 2 white shams as a background?

I would suggest some new lamps - that would be a way to bring in some more color. One is too tall and the other is too short. A matching pair in a color and style you like would add some interest.

Yes, the pillows against white shams would be nice. If mixing and matching is tough (I hear you - can be time consuming), how about solid colour pillows with texture? Velvet, suede, silk, chenille...? You could maybe try a grey and two yellows or vice versa. Your rug does have a strong pattern.

Pam, what color would you suggest for lamp bases?

Agreed. Coordinate colors with new accessories you bring in.

I think it might be easier to match the lamps to the pillows (spray paint) but if the opposite doesn't daunt you, I just spotted this set of lamps at Wayfair at 56% off. Comes in 11 colours (including purple with matching shades!) and is a simple enough design that it could go in other rooms if you change your mind. Not sure if it will fit on the small table though and the yellow might be too bright but they have white, fern green, navy, blood orange...might be worth a look at $136 for the pair.

I really like the pictures over the bed. So you think I should keep the patterned bedding I have? Is the green rectangle on the bed European shams? I think I should rethink the other artwork in the room too. Nothing has a black frame and maybe that would tie the rug in more?

I'm also thinking maybe a new nightstand on the right.

Do you have room for a new nightstand on the right? If you're planning on moving, I'd wait for that.

No, the moving has been delayed. I have about 22 inches on that side of the bed so I think I have room for a small one but bigger than the one I have.

I think the room looks lovely and relaxing. What is the paint color you have on the walls now?

Here it is with yellow....any other colours you’d like to see?

Since you're going for a farmhouse vibe, take a look at some of these bedrooms from Joanna G. Lots of them have iron beds like yours and are serene.

Thanks Deco, I'm kind of wishing my other furniture wasn't black.

HU-654, sorry I don't have the paint swatch anymore.

That's a really nice green, Stacey. You'll have to see how they suit your room.

If you wish your other furniture wasn't black, are you picturing it another colour?

I was looking at those Joanna Gaines images and she uses white a lot when she uses blue and gray.

BeverlyFLADeziner, where did you find those pictures?

With your skill set, I don't think changing the furniture color is a big problem.

    Olive green tones it down...

I'm not sure I like the olive green with the rug. Deco, I don't think I'm up for painting 4 pieces of furniture. I think I have painter's "shoulder"

I like the white one too. Believe it or not but I have 2 of those prints in the master bathroom. I also have a white lamp I can try tomorrow.

    Thoughts?

How do YOU like it? I like that green with your walls. Nice pop of colour. I like the lamp(s) as well but not sure if it's not too big for the small table.

I like it! The lamps make a big difference. I agree that one lamp is a bit big for that nightstand but I'd like to get a little larger one anyway. Are the green pillows big enough? I'm thinking maybe a green light on the dresser on the opposite side of the room? I would like to find some artwork that pulls it together a bit more.

So glad for you! I think the green pillows are big enough. You could always lower the other one to make the green more visible. I like your bed so I wouldn't hide the headboard. Do you need another light in the room? If you don't, the green can be in a little jewel box or a vase. As for artwork...well, that's the fun part! You could go for 3 botanical prints as pictured above or you can get anything that's personal to you. Favourite tree? Flower? City? Sport? Etc. Etsy is full of ideas. Have fun!

find a throw that color green for the end of the bed and TA DA! Looks great.

Personally I like the color but something doesn't look right to me with 3 pillows in back, 2 in front and one in front of those. I think European size pillows in back instead of the 3 would be nice.

It’s a king sized bed. I think I would need 3 European sized pillows.

Just a question here -- where do you put all those pillows at night? We only have 2 bed pillows. When we stay with a family member, there are so many pillows on the bed that there's no room to move around. I guess I've just simplified my house in retirement. My bedroom is very comfortable, but it's simple.

Good Question. The current setup doesn't include the actual pillows that we sleep on!

What do you think of this on the wall adjacent to the bed with the windows?

    Does this artwork work?

Yes, the colours and size work. Do you love it though? That's the key. I missed your previous post, btw. Love the flowers. The frame looks a bit bulky though. To my eye. Might look just fine in the room.

I think I do like it. I would remove the picture on the wall to the right of the bed. It feels like too much. Is the gray frame ok?

A bit too light, I think. What do you think?

I do wish it was a thin black but it is gray (in the black family) and the master bathroom is gray and the rug is black and gray.
I like the bedding and the rug, they just don't go together. Pick whichever one you like the most and decorate the room around it.
I think Garden HO’s first pic is the best - it’s a very restful space and just some coordinating artwork would be nice.
