Help with loft decorating

I am trying to arrange a cozy reading area/study area for my daughter in our upstairs loft area. I purchased a large chair and bookshelves with glass doors. (the glass doors or not on the bookshelves yet).I am not sure what other chair to put in this area. I have a picture of another chair I’m thinking about but I am also wondering if I should purchase another big chair instead of the one in the picture.I have also thought of getting a different cushion for the chair in the picture. If I purchased another big chair how would I arrange them? I have two arrangements in the pictures and wonder if either are OK. My second question is about the rug. I have used two different shape rugs from around my house so these would not be used but I don’t know whether to get a round rug or a rectangle rug. I would also like to get a floor lamp and small table. If anyone has any ideas on what to do with this area I would welcome them all!

I would skip the rug, replace the pouf with a round ottoman, add a small end table for each chair and a task lamp on each side of the bookcase in arrangement #2. Art on the wall over the stuffed chair. I would keep the Poang chair; another big chair will crowd the space.

One thing I noticed that is missing for this study area...is a desk. Is there room nearby for one? It’s nice that you are providing this space, but where will she do her homework?

both of those rugs are too small. I don't care for the round one. the rectangle needs to be a bit wider and longer.

any artwork? is this only for reading? can you back up and give us a wider view?

The area is only about 6x9 so I don’t have room for a desk too plus my daughter has one in her room she doesn’t use. She usually does her work on the couch in our family room. We have a media room so I don’t want a tv here. My guest room is nearby so I wanted it mainly as an area to hang out for reading/working/relaxing. I’m posting another pic so you can see how small the area is.
If I don’t do a rug, I feel it will lack in color. I do plan to add artwork.
Anyone else have input on rugs or arrangement?

I think the bookcase just makes it too crowed. if you want a sitting space, do a small L sectional, or a loveseat and a little chair. use some wall shelving if you want a place for your books

you can do either shape rug, it just has to be a bit larger. I think a rectangle would look better though. for colors, I like any of these to go w/your black and white

So if my sitting area is 6x9 how big should my rug be?

just a bit larger than that rectangle one you currently have. what's that size? 4x6? 3x5? try another foot wider and longer. if you have any painters tape or jute, mark it off so you can see.

    It’s a 4x6

5x7 might be a bit better. tape it off and see.

Books and tchotchkes in the bookcase and art on the wall are all the color you need. I think rugs on top of carpet are kinda silly.

Teens (assuming she is or will be one) usually prefer slouching to study, and I think a small sofa, loveseat or chaise would be a better choice there. The rug is too small, so ditch that. Don't bother with the glass doors on the bookcase. She won't tend to reach for a book if she has to keep her fingerprints off of the glass or bother to open and close them.

We think a nice chaise would be great, along with a tall lamp, end table, and some artwork. Perhaps some images will help?

Thx for the suggestions. I ended up putting another comfy chair there and at someone’s suggestion, a cowhide rug which I love. Adds some fun and interest. Put up a pic, added a lamp and a colorful ottomon. Love my space now!
