complete renovation begins in Jan, please help!

Hello Houzzers! I’ve never posted before but I’ve been learning a great deal from everyone here, in preparation for our complete renovation to begin in January. And I do mean complete- on the advice of our builder, today we bought a travel trailer to live in during the process. My question here is, what do I do with this ceiling and wall? (This is the seller’s Zillow photo, not our furniture. ) we will be installing hardwood floor, and The wall with the tv is coming out entirely, to open the room to the kitchen. The outside wall will have another patio door on it, So there will still be a small portion of thaf wall with this board and baton siding unless we decide to remove it.
Should we remove the board and baton siding on the portion of wall that will remain? Paint wall and ceiling white? Thank you all for your advice!

The answer to your question really depends on the look you are going for in the end. If you want a rustic type look keeing some of the wood might work, if you want a more modern or traditional look than you may want to paint or replace the wood. What looks inspire you?

I think you will do better making all the design choices you will need to make in the next few months if you have a planned style you are working toward, If not, the finished product may not blend together the way you want it. I would recomend looking here and finding some inspiration photos of the style you like and then constantly refer to them as your choose all the finishes during this process.

I love wood, but it just sucks the light from a room when it’s used in excess.

Totally agree that you need to start with the end result in mind. The open layout and all that natural light are great elements to work with. It will all depend on what style you you're going for. That said, you can't go wrong with white ceilings and walls, especially with an open layout, as a starting point.

What is the ceiling beyond the tv wall? That’s a very important piece of the puzzle.

In looking at your saved items in your Idea book you seem to like a classic traditional look, wood floors, simple white cabinets and walls with light grey paint and white trim. Any of that would be a great starting point.

We just finished a major remodel (kitchen, livingroom, pantry and laundry room) and lived in our 29' RV for six months during the process so I totally understand what is ahead of you.

I would remove the wood from the walls. Keep the ceiling if you can but if it does not transition well to the kitchen then I would lower it for cohesiveness. I see the kitchen has soffits. Will you be removing them?

Thanks everyone for your input! To answer a question- the wall with the tv on it is coming down, and we will carry the vault through that area into the kitchen to extend through the entire length of the kitchen. So it will be an open room with a long vault.
