With some quick web searches, it appears to have a Kosmos burner. The burner collar has some cracks, and it was attached to the font with Elmer's glue. After dampening the glue, I was able to remove the burner and collar to see that the font doesn't have any real way of attaching the collar.. there is no neck or threads, hence the glue. I don't imagine that's how it should work, though.

The shade fitter has tiny holes, as though crystals should be attached around it. I do see others online with crystals, so was wondering if I should find some. What do you think? If I should add them, what size and shape would be most appropriate?

Should there be a smoke bell? There is a hole at the bottom of the counter-balance to thread a wire with which to attach one. Would it be metal or glass?

As for the counter-balance, what exactly is in it it to give it it's weight? I can hear the contents move around when I shake it, and it makes me curious. It sounds metallic, and like it must be larger than sand. Do you know of a source to find more of the chain? I would need to make it longer to work well on my ceiling.

Do you think the frame is brass, bronze, or something else? I love the patina and don't plan on changing it, but would like to know what it is. And the wind angel and guy with the inside-out umbrella are fantastic!

That's all I can think to ask of your for now, but I'm sure I'll come up with more questions as you all give me your ideas of it's age and origin :)

I suspect the font is not original.....and that's why the burner was glued on. I am sure the frame is brass.....and I will say it would be beautiful polished.
No idea what they put in the counter balance to give ti weight....perhaps lead shot? Crystals on the shade frame would be lovely!! as would a smoke bell. never seen one on a lamp like that that is anything but glass....milk glass. It's a lovely lamp.....and will be nicer when you get it fixed up!
