No clock IMO a dated look for along time already and who needs another clock in their lives . You want to know the time look at your phone. I think clocks in enetrtaining spaces are just a rude reminder of the time. Why not just another piece of art.

Patricia, I don't usually have my phone in that room and my boys have a bedtime - which is frequently late because we have no idea what time it is. Unfortunately, I need that rude reminder of the time!

Just fyi - not everybody has a phone in their hands when they're sitting on the couch. I never do, since I don't have a phone. My opinion is that a pretty clock would be fine in that space. Especially since you have a definite reason to put one there!

I like analog wall clocks. I like to know what time it is, hands-free.

Love your Christmas decorations. I think a clock would be neat. I think an invisible bookshelf with a few books, topped by one of those little leather snap shut vintage travel clocks would be cool.

Goodness...I think it's great that want a clock. If your boys are young, it's a great thing to teach them how to tell time (so please get regular numbers and not roman numerals), and we don't need that skill lost to technology, do we?

yes. I don't know why people said clocks are "dated" . I have a clock in every room of my house. Not only wall ones, but small ones in a table for example to not conflict with the other decor

I love clocks. Love the ticking sound. Have a bunch of them, one in almost every room. Besides liking them, a necessity because the dog gets treats in the afternoon. At 2:30. He started asking for treats at 9:30 this morning! Of course, when 2:30 rolls around, he'll be expecting more treats...

I am actually not interested in moving my furniture, my paintings, nor adding tables to the room. The sofa is a sectional so it must stay put anyway. I do not think clocks are dated any more than sinks are dated...

I, too, wear a wind up watch...and I have a ticking clock in my family room. It's satisfying and (at the risk of sounding like I might need therapy) strangely comforting.

Put a clock on the short wall. We need a clock in our rooms (sorry Patricia, not dated, we are just not married to our phones) plus our young children do not have phones and they need to know when to be ready for school etc and they can read a clock!!!!

How about a small clock on your table? And then your wall is free for more art or maybe a bookcase.

Why are you asking if you love clocks and want one do it.

I'll echo mimimomy and suggest a shelf to "ground" the clock. The shelf could also serve as a spot for a family photo or a do-dad or two that you enjoy. The result would be a vignette of sorts. Perhaps not to your tastes, but below is a mock-up of the concept.

Would a simple table clock on your end table work for you? I put a digital clock inside my TV cabinet next to the equipment. Its large red numbers are visible everywhere in the room even in total darkness. The fact that its lit at night could work for you. I noticed you don't have a light near that wall you wanted to hang the clock. I found the red numbers the easiest to see in different lighting. You could also set the alarm feature for bedtime. Hey, I have that print! It used to hang above my fireplace a few homes ago. "Boats at Argenteuille"? (pardon my poor spelling of it). I love it and really love your large format of it. I always have mine is a spot where I can see it often. Anyway, an analog clock would be great. Maybe a French style to go with the print? Or Pennydesign's look great. (I have analog clocks on the wall in my kitchen, boot room, garage, laundry, and a tabletop clock on a bookshelf in the living room. But I'm looking for a large wall clock for the living room that I can see in the low light.)

I wanted a clock in the living room, but I don't want it glaring at me and reminding me constantly of the passage of time. I don't want to know that a show is about to end. I don't want to know that Vera is about to solve the murder. I don't want to know that I'm about to see the last of the blazing sun of Corfu again for another week. And I think it's unwelcoming for guests.

My solution: I repurposed an old cell phone, plugged it in, installed a clock app in order to get large numbers (green on black), propped it up in landscape mode, and turned the brightness way, way down. It's out of direct line of sight as I'm watching TV and blends in with the other stuff on the shelves, and is just visible when I need it. Nobody notices it. And, since it still syncs with our WiFi, it updates the time shift in spring and fall automatically.

Problem solved.

But if you just have to have a sizeable clock, at least make it real, not some Chinese sweatshop faux thing that obviously came from an off-price décor store. Get an antique or a quality mantel clock.

Kids are smart. Put a clock in the kitchen and then make a game out of the children “intuitively” telling when it is time for bed then verify by going to kitchen to see a clock. That way you teach two things and don’t clutter your wall with trendy item. A nice group of prints on that wall would be nice. Try that first.

Of course you can have a clock. Big, old, square, whatever. While I know this is a decorating forum, not being able to have a clock on the wall is ridiculous. And why hide it out of the way? Doesn't that defeat the point of having one in the room?

I didn’t call a big clock dated I said “trendy”. Where i was keyed was on the “teachable” aspects mentioned by the poster. If you still want some form of clock and teachable aspect get different clocks some with Roman numerals so they can learn those, one with no numbers just hash marks for the key spots. Make it fun. Just don’t hang a clock on that short wall. We have 4 young ones. They didn’t need a clock to know when it was bedtime. They judged by how dark it was outside, or what TV programs were on etc. lol. And in their minds it was always too early to go to bed!

I've tried to take my little clock off of my mantle numerous times. It just keeps going back. I need to know what time it is and even though my phone is within reach, i prefer to look over at my little clock on the mantle. :-)

KCorona, kind of funny how these things take on a life of their own, isn't it? I think many of us were just stunned with the concept that something so functional, beautiful, and timeless (haha!) as a clock could be bad!

I know - I just wanted to know if it would look ok - kind of floating on the wall. Everyone is entitled to their opinions - I just try not to give mine unless it is asked for. I'm going with a floor clock as it solves the problem!
