Just be aware that you probably won't be able to get much money back for the second live edge table that you'd sell down the road.

your idea is sound... but i'm not sure how 2 live edges would look butted together, seems not even a table cloth would meld them. i guess i'd need to see how lively the live edges were.

after 35 years we got a new dining table.... we went with a large oval with leaves, we can remove the leaves down the road if we need to.

Don't buy anything with the intent to recoup the expense later. Used furniture has little to no real value. Just buy what you want and dont' worry about it. Just downsize the table now.

Hubby and I joke that we are too old to buy investment or heirloom furniture. The kids will just get rid of it when we are gone.

All good advice! what I did not mention is that the tables are on sale and a fraction of what a larger table costs. Also, we have 3 kids who are just starting to furnish their own homes, so could potentially pass on to one of them. I was really questioning the design aspect and how it might look. I see tables set up like this on display in furniture stores but was unsure about my ability to pull
