Countertop / Pull - ADVICE!

Help!! We bought a new construction home already complete. The layout of the home was my dream and the most important room of the house is my kitchen. Unfortunately they selected cabinets and countertops that I am not a fan of. Is this kitchen salvageable if I replace countertops and pulls? I am leaving white quartz on dark cabinets, so the busy granite is too much for me. Wanting to find a creamy swirl marble looking granite or quartz that will go with the cream cabinet and glazed finish, and maybe glass or gold pulls instead? Any advice is appreciated

Leave it. Or replace hardware if it doesn’t require filling existing holes.

I sounded like an ungrateful brat - I should've given some more background in that the one room I wanted to have my own selections was the kitchen. My son's have allergies and I spend 90% of waking hours in that room. we planned to build until we stumbled into this home and adios went my dream cabinets bc my husband is not about to let me take them out. :) They are beautiful, just not what I envisioned. The house was a steal and the layout is perfect. I know this is all cosmetic preference, I just feel let down and totally confused on where to start coming from white grays and silvers, into creams and bronze.

Well. We all love something, one thing more than another. But it does NOT change the fact that it needs to be seen on site.

If you are so totally bummed by the white? Maybe hubby will consider a very professional paint job to the cabinets, and to a darker color. Buying an existing home was certainly less $$$$$$$$$$ than building anew. THEN address the tops.

What I would not do, is throw money at tops if the misery of cabinetry will still be with you. What about a lovely charcoal, a deep navy with white? Mmmmm?

In any scenario, I would not rush any decision. Talk it through with DH. Maybe some of the "steal" goes to a significant cosmetic compensation. Paint, tops, etc. But even that........is a no if you hate the layout, cabinet style, etc. Chill out a bit is my advice. Feed the kids, and count up some blessings. That line??? Yup.........miles lol and miles and miles.

As you know, this kitchen is beautiful. Maybe you can adjust your expectations a bit. Make some idea books, browse Pinterest for cream kitchens. Find a new inspiration kitchen more in line with what you have to work with. Congrats on the new home!

Very last thought?? Building anew is so very expensive? Your "dream" may have not been exactly your vision either. Not unless a custom builder. Even a semi custom spec home can turn out to be a lot less than the dream . Just sayin: )

In fact, a lot of that kitchen could be sold in a heartbeat,. Would it pay for a new one? No. But it sure need not go in a dumpster., if only due to that line I mentioned many times. Hence, enjoy the holidays, get settled, give thanks, and........yup. Hang on a bit before you rush in.

Can you be more specific about what your dream kitchen would be and exactly what you don’t like about this one? Maybe post some pics of your dream kitchens. There may be other elements that could be changed to get you closer to loving this kitchen

I am seeing nothing wrong with the kitchen at all except for the god awful builder grade lighting . So before doing anything else change the lighting and make sure all the bulbs in all the fixtures are the daylight LEDs in 3500- 5000k range. Then colors will look true and might surprise you that they are okay.I think whenever we have dream in our head anything else is a let down. Changing the lighting and the handles will be a good start and not cost the earth. Then if after 6 months you still hate certain things then save up to change them

I think your kitchen is beautiful. What backsplash is that?

first off, take out those bright white outlets and the covers off the backsplash and get the gray ones. they have many gray shades, find one closest to the tile color

    see? much better.

you can do handles on the doors. use the existing hole for the bottom of whatever handle you choose. they're tall cabs so don't pick something in the 3" range. I like the polished or brushed nickel, but if you like the ORB or black, choose that.

for your drawers, you'll have to stay w/knobs.

Then I switch out the light for something a bit more snazzy (including those blah island pendants)

(in the same metal you choose for your handles, not this gold)

then find a runner you like for the area around the island

change your recessed lights as mentioned. bring in some accents like you see here in the pic.

make all these changes and see how nice it looks. live w/it for awhile before you switch out the granite/tile splash.

I think that a Taj Mahal quartzite could work with your cabinets. Taj Mahal is a true quartzite, and will give you the soft marble look that you like. You can see it in this kitchen with a similar cabinet.
