Teen age mutant ninja lemon

Chances are you will get nothing from the place purchased, but did you ask?

I asked, they didn't know and the lemons on the stand were a mixture of eureka lemons and these elongated strange looking lemons.

I'm lucky, my local oriental market usually has the owner or his son there. They know what they order. It's a pretty large store (for an oriental market), but due to apparently enormous possibilities, they alternate orders so that you can't always expect them to have what they had last week in stock this week. Though, it will show back up again in a few weeks.
Course, they wouldn't know any more than the order sheets gave..which might be 'lemon' (lol).

Darn you have no seeds as I would love to have one of those. Very unique. Try one of these two sites and see if you find a match. I would have asked to see the shipping boxes/crates which held the lemons. Usually the variety is marked on box. Try buying a few more of these lemons. You may find a seed. Sumos are suppose to be seedless but every now and then you could get lucky and find one.

Wow, I have forgotten that not everything is a cultivar and there are rogue strains all over the place of most fruits. The US tends to be more homogenized and you find like 5 vars of apples, one lemon, two limes, etc. I knew better (once upon a time).

Dbarron: I scout around different farmers markets and ethnic stores to find things I have not seen before. It is so much more fun to find the 'rogue' one as you put it.

Sunshine: That thick rind on the lemon makes me think that it is a pretty robust/wild mutation. But then I would also expect them to be very seedy. It is a curious find indeed. I will keep a lookout for it in stores here.

Looking around that website, it seems it might have citron in it's genetic background. Yeah, I agree, finding something new is always fun.

Kelley and I think this lemon is a Lunario. It's popular in Europe. I found a better source that shows a picture of fruit on the tree. Denise, thank you, you found the name! In that russian site I read that Lunario fruit rarely has seeds in it. The two lemons I bought, did not have any seeds. The site also says that the reason for naming that variety "Lunario" is it blooms during Full Moon (lunar phase).

Sunshine, it could be a Lunario, but not positive as there are so many varieties that we are not aware of here in the States. I contacted somebody in Italy who works in a citrus nursery about it, but have not yet heard back from her.
