look at houzz pics of cherry cabinet kitchen; advice seems to be go very light or very dark....so many pictures! Good luck.

light grays or light greens...or a green/gray pattern.What is your budget? Can you get a referral from your contractor or design person...walk around a stone yard...take a drawer front from your kitchen.....you will get inspired..cherry is a great wood.

Don't go with black countertops. Your cabinets are already so dark, you don't want your kitchen to be even darker. Go with a light granite or quartz. Take a door to the stone yard & see what you like.

What’s the story with quartz and sunlight though? Last thing I would want is a counter that turns yellow or fades

We are putting in almost the same cabinets (Kraftmaid cherry Autumn Blush?), and are using White Ice granite in a leathered finish. We loved the light grey/blue and sometimes just a hint of red to go with the cabinets.

What color floors with A lighter counter? And cherry cabinets

If you like a lot of movement, check Neptuno (Netuno or River) Bordeaux. It's more grayish/greenish than the sienna or typhoon Bordeaux type. For something with not so much dramatic pattern, you might look into Taj Mahal quartzite or Madre Perle quartzite. If you go with a light granite, check to see if it will stain easily. Some do, some don't. Search here under testing granite and you should find how to do it.
