It reminds me of the heavy wooden doors on Spanish buildings in the American West. So maybe Spanish/Mexican Colonial would resonate better to describe the hundreds of years that either Spain or Mexico have been the dominant non indigenous influences on the homes in the region.

Yes, they do just make this stuff up. In the "wild west", most likely the bed would have been an old painted iron one - usually painted white. Easy to move on a covered wagon.

That bed is hideous. Today, most of the beds have monster headboards to try to balance the monster mattresses and box platforms (they no longer have springs in them). That God for a few custom mattress companies still out there so one can have a standard size mattress made for ones old bed (I have a Charleston Rice bed I bought about 38 years ago).

Even the padded headboards look as if they are on steroids and they appear to always be place in front of a window. Not in my house! Of course, that 38 year old bed is the NEWEST in my house!

I don't understand, or like, large headboards and I've never used a box spring. I bought this simple bed 30 years ago and you can still buy it.
