Agreed. You could also do some round placemats under the plates in silver or gold. Also consider linking another centerpiece to make it longer and more dramatic. Also try moving the plates a little more towards the centre of the table.

Layers are what really make a table looked finished....

    table cloth

    Layer ontop a placemat

    red charger

    china dinner plate

salad plate if possible in a pattern

napkin with napkin ring..add a sprig of Christmas greens under each napkin ring

you could add a few more long picks of greens under your centerpiece to extend it a bit longer...I like to add wide Christmas ribbon throughout the greens..

If just making it festive and not setting for a dinner party..I would remove the table cloth...add more greens and ribbon to the centerpiece..if you have any candle sticks add them to the middle with a Christmas ornament on top of each one..it looks so festive and so easy to do.

I love my red chargers for a Christmas BLING. I would say you are off to a great start. I am hoping your dishes are white, keep the candy cane red and white going!!

With silverware, glassware, etc. the look will be more finished. You can also layer a runner on top of a tablecloth. Here are some pictures of what we've done before.

Instead of a center runner or placemats, you can run some across the table under 2 place settings:

You could increase the length of your centerpiece by adding something under it, like this with trays:
And I'd do some kind of smaller decorations toward the ends of table, like some greens with little ornaments and/or votives on them, or similar.

    chair decoration?

The table is not set yet. Once you fill in the crystal and cutlery, it will look better. I do not care for place mats or runners on top of tablecloths. I love your bright red chargers. Maybe a tiny Christmassy plant at every place setting would add a festive touch. I like centerpieces that are a bit more exuberant, flow and spill a bit more.

Love placemats on top of tablecloth but runners I am not crazy about....laying the placemats on the tablecloth helps it not look so flat..and after dinner I like to remove the placemats and serve Dessert or set up dessert table with Just the tablecloth on.

Not a fan of placemats and runners, but then the only tablecloths I ever use in my DR are white linen damask and they need no "accessory".

Your table is not yet set with glassware and silverware. Do that and then re-post the picture. And lose the artificial greenery - cut or buy some fresh greens (a variety) as the time for using the table as set, draws closer.

I do think the days of white damask table cloths may be not as popular with all the new contemporary decorating....each generation seems to have it own look..much more glitzy these days and the more layers the better..a feast for the eyes...but of course a proper traditional table is set with a white damask table cloth and china....no wrong or right..

Pretty start! I agree with layering. Add both dinner and salad plates, flatware, festive salt/pepper, and long stemmed glasses. I would iron your napkins and beef up the rings/ribbon with greenery/red. It appears you are using 2 different chairs, maybe alternate them as opposed to each type on either side of table. If you choose to add a runner, it needs texture/color as your tablecloth is neutral. In the past I have added such things to elongate my center piece such as miniature ornaments. Red would look nice, I have also used miniature mercury, or gold ornaments or, a bag of jingle bells spread down either side of the centerpiece. It looks like the wall is empty behind your wooden chairs. I can not determine the rest of the room, but maybe a temporary wreath would be fun. I do not see a chandelier, if there is one add greenery to it. You can also hang light items from it. I have hung ornaments with thin ribbon, or little sparkle lights, or pearl garland or crystal garland before. Nothing I have used is super expensive and I change it up most every year. I save what I use and mix and match the next year. Generally I try to tie the main tree decorations with table scapes. This year I used pearl garland and crystals as my tie throughout the house. Have fun and please post your update.
