Installing wall cabinets in laundry room

I currently have a shelf in the laundry. I carefully removed it, and patched the wall.

Now, I am ready to install the cabinets.

I can mount the cabinets to the studs. But I am afraid, I might miss the studs.

So, is it ok, if I put two 2x4s flat against the wall (one on the top and one on the bottom) and then install the cabinets onto the 2x4?

Both sides of the cabinets are walls, so there is no way one could see what's behind the cabinets.

Also, is it better to use a 2x4 or should I go with a 2x6 ?

Can you buy a stud finder?

The Ikea system uses a rail. I like it, but you still need to find the studs.

Stud finders are pretty easy to use. I would just get one.

I do have a stud finder. I recently wall mounted TV.

I can find the studs, but I am not sure how accurate I can be when putting the screws from inside the cabinets.

If I have to put 2x4, I can see the markings when putting them on studs. And then I install the cabinets, I don't have to be that accurate. That's the reason I am leaning towards putting the 2x4s.

If you have any tips, please share.
