Pearl Remodeling

I made some changes but this is the final look.

I live in Texas and figured I’m never gonna be out there because it’s too hot unless there’s a way to cool down. I wanted multiple seating areas. Due to county rules, we can’t build a fire pit unless it’s five feet from the fence and building. So i lost out on my original fire pit.

I decided to switch my color theme from red to blue, invest in more comfortable furniture, and really create one of those outdoor areas I’ve always admired

The cushions add a lovely touch!

Beautiful!! I especially love the pergola and seating area and lights under it. Do you find it creates any shade?

The pergola provides some shade but not a whole lot because of the direction of the sun. That’s where the long curtains come in. It doesn’t look like it but i have 12 panels up so i can open and block the sun if i need to

The seating area is my favorite part of the whole backyard because it’s very cozy. It’s where i hang out after work

How did the pergola affect the light that hits then inside of the house? We debated putting one up but didn't want the picture window to go dark.

It has no effect on it. We still get lots of natural light through those windows. This is a picture of the view from the living room and another is from the windows in the master.

How did the pergola affect the light that hits then inside of the house?

Unfortunately with the pergola that close to the side of the house it is bisecting all the glass that is in that part - in your first picture the house looks fancy and architect designed, in the second like something has crashed into the back of it and is sticking out of it. Also if it were farther out from the house, the pergola would shade more of the features you have installed. The way it is now you only have shade where the chairs are.

Your (beautiful) house had a very flat look in the back before — I like how the pergola gives it depth and interest, and is functional as well. Any little bit of breaking up the Texas sun is a good thing ... but without creating dark rooms inside. Great decision.

We’re fellow Texans but not neighbors. Do you mind sharing how much everything cost? It’s just perfect. I am showing my husband because I can use a thousand words to paint him a picture and he defaults to an image of a ‘pergola kit‘ from Home Depot or the pergola covered dining area from the fancy hotel we stayed at 4 years ago.
