Dwarf Alocasia ID needed

last modified: 7 years ago

This plant was given to me as "Silver Leaf Alocasia" many years ago. I had it growing outside under my oak tree when I lived in Florida z9b/10a, and it died down and came back every year. It never got very big, stayed the size of one of the Jewel Alocasias.

It's sort of a PITA plant grown in a container. The main bulb keeps dying and then babies come up from around it. At present, I only have one bulb, and it is very small, only put out three leaves this year. It takes FOREVER to come up. This year, it didn't spring forth until July here in Florida z9a. If I knew it was hardy, I'd plant it in the ground, where it seems to be much happier.

I've searched and searched, and only found one picture that looks like it HERE, but I think the ID is wrong. It says it's Alocasia clypeolata "Green Shield," but every other picture of Green Shield has much darker veins. I tried to find a picture of the A. cypeoplata species, to no avail.

Can anyone identify this for me? If not, I guess it just goes into the "NOID" column.
